To Bee or Not to Bee - poems by Emily

Book Review: #8220;The War of Art#8221; by Steven Pressfield. The War of Art - Steven Pressfield. This week, I#8217;ve just finished reading #8220;The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles#8221; by acclaimed novelist Steven Pressfield. The title of the bee is not, this book is not to be confused with #8220;Art of War#8221; by Sun Tsu #8230; you know, the book that is lenin funeral compulsory reading for anyone in corporate management #8230; I found this book immensely interesting and useful. What follows is probably the most in-depth review of it on the web. The Bee? I enjoyed this book. Born James A. Naismith Game? It was a different sort of read, but its concepts made me reflect back on some of my own creative battles and realise that I knew EXACTLY what Steven was talking about. Afraid Of Me? If you are already highly successful, motivated, driven, and you#8217;re always able to accomplish all the tasks and goals you set yourself, then this book is NOT for you! You#8217;re already perfect and don#8217;t need any more help. Proposals Examples? Leave this room.

You#8217;re making everyone sick! But if you#8217;re like the rest of us, and long to is not afraid of me, achieve certain goals but never seem to get moving, then this book is for you. Alfred Hitchcock? It doesn#8217;t matter what your goal is. Regardless of whether you#8217;re trying to write a novel or screenplay, finish your artistic works, start a charity, start dieting or exercising, or even if you hope to run a marathon someday, this book is for all of is not of me, you. Born On This Day In 1861, James Which Popular? At least, that#8217;s what the book promises. This book will help you identify the major bottlenecks preventing you from the bee is not, achieving your dreams. It will then help you overcome these obstacles, while helping you become more aware of the born on this day in james a. naismith invented popular, nature of the #8220;enemy#8221; for future battles. It#8217;s primarily a motivational and philosophical book, but also contains some techniques to help you put everything together. However, it is not a step-by-step #8220;how-to#8221; kind of book. It#8217;s more about understanding the psychology of creation, and how you can support it. #8220;The War of Art#8221; was written by acclaimed novelist Steven Pressfield. His previous works include, #8220;The Legend of Bagger Vance#8221; (which was turned into the bee afraid a movie starring Will Smith and Matt Damon), #8220;Gates of day in invented game, Fire#8221;, #8220;Tides of War#8221;, #8220;Last of the the bee is not afraid, Amazons#8221;, #8220;The Virtues of War#8221;, #8220;The Afghan Campaign#8221;, and #8220;Killing Rommel#8221;.

This is his first venture into non-fiction, since he wanted to share what he has learned about defeating one#8217;s inner creative battles. By far the biggest highlight, and the concept at the centre of this entire book, is Steven#8217;s label for the invisible force that seems to prevent us from achieving our goals. Using writing as an alfred hitchcock example, he sets the tone of the book with this introduction: There#8217;s a secret that real writers know that wannabe writers don#8217;t, and is not of me, the secret is this: It#8217;s not the writing part that#8217;s hard. What#8217;s hard is lenin funeral sitting down to is not afraid, write. What keeps us from sitting down is Resistance. Using his #8220;Resistance#8221; concept, Steven splits up #8220;The War of Art#8221; into of a critical three sub-books. Book One deals with the concept of of me, Resistance by defining what it is. Book Two deals with the techniques and mindset you can use to on this james a. naismith invented which popular game, combat Resistance, now that you know what it is. Its main emphasis is on #8220;turning pro#8221; as a way of combating Resistance. Book Three has more of a spiritual element and tries to connect the previous books into one overriding whole.

Besides Resistance, Steven also talks about his interpretation of concepts such as Genius, Muses, Angels, and the nature of hierarchical and territorial motivations. He somehow manages to link these all into one coherent whole, leaving you with a lot to ponder over. Is Not Of Me? From reading various reader reviews, it seems like this is the sort of book that divides people. Many absolutely love the hitchcock, poetic (sometimes abstract) wisdom contained in #8220;The War of Art#8220;, and understand that its appeal lies in afraid of me, the way Steven has presented his philosophies. There are just so many great quotes in this book, quotes that reward repeat readings. The fact that it#8217;s also a quick and easy read makes it all that much more appealing. It#8217;s just inspiring, really. On the other hand, other readers react quite negatively towards some of the underlying themes in this book (or even the way it is example of a critical review written). Is Not? I will talk about that shortly. But first, just to show you some of the memorable advice in this book, let#8217;s have a look at some of my favourite quotes from it. Usually, I wouldn#8217;t directly quote from a book in review, a review like this (or at least not as much as I#8217;m about to).

Instead, I would just summarise it myself. But with a book like this the enjoyment comes from not just its content, but more importantly the way it has been written. So enjoy the following quotes. Any of afraid, these could be printed up and placed at born on this day in game, your desk as a great source of daily inspiration. My favourites are in bold . From Book One: Resistance Defining the Enemy. Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands resistance. Are you a writer that doesn#8217;t write, a painter who doesn#8217;t paint, an entrepreneur who never starts a venture?

Then you know what Resistance is. Any act that rejects immediate gratification in the bee afraid of me, favor of long-term growth, health or integrity #8230; will elicit Resistance. Notorious Hitchcock? Resistance is like the Alien or the Terminator or the shark in Jaws . It cannot be reasoned with. It understands nothing but power. It is an engine of destruction, programmed from the factory with one object only: to prevent us from doing our work. Rule of thumb: The more important a call or action is to our soul#8217;s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it. Resistance has no strength of its own. Every ounce of is not afraid of me, juice it possesses comes from us. Wayside Essay? We feed it with power by our fear of the bee is not of me, it.

Master that fear, and we conquer Resistance. Procrastination is the most common manifestation of Resistance because it#8217;s the easiest to rationalize. We don#8217;t tell ourselves, #8216;I#8217;m never going to write my symphony.#8217; Instead we say, #8216;I am going to write my symphony; I#8217;m just going to start tomorrow.#8217; The danger is greatest when the finish line is in sight. At this point, Resistance knows we#8217;re about to beat it. It hits the panic button. It marshals one last assault and slams us with everything it#8217;s got.

Never forget: This very moment, we can change our lives. There never was a moment, and never will be, when we are without the power to alter our destiny. This second, we can turn the tables on Resistance. This second, we can sit down and lenin funeral, do our work. Creating soap opera in our lives is a symptom of Resistance. Why put in years of the bee is not of me, work designing a new software interface when you can get just as much attention by bringing home a boyfriend with a prison record. Depression and anxiety may be real. Business Examples? But they can also be Resistance. Casting yourself as a victim is the antithesis of afraid of me, doing your work. Don#8217;t do it. If you#8217;re doing it, stop.

Unalleviated, Resistance mounts to a pitch that becomes unendurable. At this point vices kick in. Dope, adultery, web surfing. Essay? Beyond that, Resistance becomes clinical. Depression, aggression, dysfunction. Then actual crime and is not, physical destruction.

Sounds like life, I know. It isn#8217;t. It#8217;s Resistance. If you find yourself criticizing other people, you#8217;re probably doing it out of Resistance. When we see others beginning to live their authentic selves, it drives us crazy if we have not lived out our own.

Individuals who are realized in their own lives almost never criticize others. Wayside Essay? If they speak at all, it is to offer encouragement. The more scared we are of a work or calling, the is not afraid, more sure we can be that we have to do it. Resistance is experienced as fear; the lenin funeral, degree of fear equates to the strength of Resistance. Therefore the more fear we feel about a specific entreprise, the more certain we can be that that enterprise is afraid of me important to alfred, us and to the growth of our soul. That#8217;s why we feel so much Resistance. Of Me? If it meant nothing to us, there#8217;d be no Resistance. The more Resistance you experience, the more important your unmanifested art/project/enterprise is to you and the more gratification you will feel when you finally do it. Rationalization is Resistance#8217;s spin doctor.

It#8217;s Resistance#8217;s way of hiding the Big Stick behind its back. Instead of of a critical, showing us our fear (which might shame us and impel us to do our work), Resistance presents us with a series of plausible, rational justifications for the bee is not afraid of me why we shouldn#8217;t do our work. Defeating Resistance is like giving birth. It seems absolutely impossible until you remember that women have been pulling it off successfully, with support and without, for fifty million years. From Book Two: Combating Resistance Turning Pro. On This 1861, A. Naismith Invented Which Game? The conventional interpretation is afraid of me that the alfred, amateur pursues his calling out of is not afraid, love, while the pro does it for of a review money. Not the afraid of me, way I see it. In my view, the amateur does not love the game enough. If he did, he would not pursue it as a sideline, distinct from his #8220;real#8221; vocation.

The professional loves it so much he dedicates his life to lenin funeral, it. He commits full-time. That#8217;s what I mean when I say turning pro. Resistance hates it when we turn pro. The amateur believes he must first overcome his fear; then he can do his work. The professional knows that fear can never be overcome. He knows there is no such thing as a fearless warrior or a dread-free artist #8230; [but] he knows that once he gets out into the action, his fear will recede and he#8217;ll be okay. The professional knows that Resistance is like a telemarketer; if you so much as say hello, you#8217;re finished. Of Me? The pro doesn#8217;t even pick up the example of a critical, phone. He stays at work. The professional conducts his business in the bee is not, the real world.

Adversity, injustice, bad hops and rotten calls, even good breaks and lucky bounces all comprise the ground over which the business, campaign must be waged. The field is is not afraid level, the professional understands, only in heaven. The professional dedicates himself to Wayside Essay, mastering technique not because he believes technique is a substitute for inspiration but because he wants to be in possession of the full arsenal of skills when inspiration does come. The professional is sly. He knows that by toiling beside the front door of technique, he leaves room for genius to enter by the back.

When people say an artist has a thick skin, what they mean is not that the person is dense or numb, but that he has seated his professional consciousness in a place other than his personal ego. An amateur lets the the bee afraid, negative opinion of others unman him. He takes external criticism to heart, allowing it to trump his own belief in himself and his work. Resistance loves this. The professional cannot allow the actions of others to proposals, define his reality. The Bee Is Not Of Me? Tomorrow morning the of a critical, critic will be gone, but the writer will still be there facing the blank page. Nothing matters but that he keep working.

Short of a family crisis or the outbreak of World War III, the professional shows up, ready to serve the gods. Remember, Resistance wants us to cede sovereignty to others. It wants us to stake our self-worth, our identity, our reason-for-being, on the response of other to our work. Resistance knows we cant take this. No one can. The professional blows critics off. The Bee Is Not Of Me? He doesn#8217;t even hear them. Critics, he reminds himself, are the unwitting mouthpieces of Resistance #8230; The professional learns to recognize envy-driven criticism and to Wayside Madonna, take it for what is the bee of me is: the example, supreme compliment. The critic hates most that which he would have done himself if he had had the the bee is not of me, guts. Making yourself a corporation (or just thinking of yourself in that way) reinforces the idea of professionalism because it separates the artist-doing-the-work from the will-and-consciousness-running-the-show.

No matter how much abuse is heaped on the head of the former, the latter takes it in stride and keeps on trucking. If we think of business proposals examples, ourselves as a corporation, it gives us a healthy distance on ourselves. We#8217;re less subjective. We don#8217;t take blows as personally. We#8217;re more cold-blooded; we can price our wares more realistically. From Book Three: Beyond Resistance Higher Realm. As Resistance works to keep us from becoming who we were born to the bee afraid of me, be, equal and opposite proposals, powers are counter-poised against it.

There are our allies and angels. #8230; the most important thing about art is to work. Nothing else matters except sitting down every day and trying. #8230; when we sit down day after day and keep grinding, something mysterious starts to afraid of me, happen. Lenin Funeral? A process is the bee is not of me set into motion by which, inevitably and Wayside Essay, infallibly, heaven comes to our aid. Unseen forces enlist in our cause; serendipity reinforces our purpose. I think angels make their home in the Self, while Resistance has its seat in the Ego. The fight is between the two. The Self wishes to is not of me, create, to 1861, james invented game, evolve. The Ego likes things just the way they are. Is Not Afraid? The Ego produces Resistance and born on this a. naismith invented which, attacks the awakening artist.

We come into this world with a specific, personal destiny. We have a job to is not afraid, do, a calling to enact, a self to become. We are who we are from the cradle, and we#8217;re stuck with it. Our job in this lifetime is business proposals examples not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to the bee, be, but to find out who we already are and summary, become it. In the animal kingdom, individuals define themselves in one of two ways by their rank within a hierarchy (a hen in a pecking order, a wolf in a pack) or by is not afraid of me their connection to movie, a territory (a home base, a hunting ground, a turf).

This is how individuals humans as well as animals achieve psychological security. Of the two orientations, the hierarchical seems to be the default setting. #8230; We define ourselves, instinctively it seems, by our position within the schoolyard, the the bee of me, gang, the club. Day In 1861, Invented Popular? It#8217;s only later in life, usually after a term of the bee afraid, education in the university of born day in 1861, a. naismith invented which game, hard knocks, that we begin to explore the territorial alternative. Is Not Afraid? For some of us, this saves our lives. For the lenin funeral, artist to define himself hierarchically is fatal. #8230; The artist must operate territorially. He must do his work for its own sake. Of Me? In the hierarchy, the artist faces outward. Meeting someone new he asks himself, What can this person do for me?

How can this person advance my standing? In the hierarchy, the artist looks up and notorious hitchcock, looks down. The one place he can#8217;t look is the bee afraid of me that place he must: within. A hack #8230; is a writer who second-guesses his audience. When the hack sits down to work, he doesn#8217;t ask himself what#8217;s in his own heart. He asks what the market is looking for. #8230; the Wayside Essay, hack writes hierarchically. The Bee Is Not Afraid? He writes what he imagines will play well in the eyes of others. He does not ask himself, What do I myself want to write? What do I think is important? Instead he asks, What#8217;s hot, what can I make a deal for?

The artist can#8217;t do his work hierarchically. He has to work territorially. The act of summary, creation is by definition territorial. As the mother-to-be bears her child within her, so the artist or the innovator contains her new life. No one can help her give it birth. The Bee Is Not Of Me? But neither does she need any help. Of any activity you do, ask yourself: If I were the last person on earth, would I still do it?

If you#8217;re all alone on the planet, a hierarchical orientation makes no sense. There#8217;s no one to impress. So, if you#8217;d still pursue that activity, congratulations. Business Proposals Examples? You#8217;re doing it territorially. If you were meant to cure cancer or write a symphony or crack cold fusion and you don#8217;t do it, you not only hurt yourself, even destroy yourself. You hurt your children. You hurt me. The Bee Is Not Afraid? You hurt the planet. Business Proposals Examples? Creative work is not a selfish act or a bid for attention on the part of the actor. It#8217;s a gift to the world and every being in it. The Bee Is Not? Don#8217;t cheat us of your contribution.

Give us what you#8217;ve got. There are many more quotes I could include, but the above should give you an idea about whether this is the sort of day in james a. naismith which game, book you#8217;d enjoy. If you would, I think you#8217;ll also find some of the following chapters interesting too: #8220;We#8217;re All Pros Already#8221; chapter, which compares the qualities that define us as professionals in our day-to-day lives with the qualities of the amateur who does their true calling #8220;on the side#8221;. #8220;Life and the bee of me, Death#8221; chapter, which talks about the Ego and the Self, and talks about our psyche (the Jungian-derived model) and what happens when we are faced with our imminent extinction. What becomes important? Is it possible to heal ourselves by frida doing that which we know is important to us? #8220;The Artist and the Hierarchy#8221; chapter, which explains what happens when an artist defines themselves hierarchically. #8220;The Territorial Orientation#8221; chapter, which discusses the qualities of a territory, and how we can find our own. From reading some of the negative reviews out there, here are some of the the bee is not afraid of me, major points people complain about: The book is proposals too short It gets a bit #8220;weird#8221; towards the end The book implies that the cause of cancer is Resistance.

Let me deal with each one of the above objections. Firstly, yes, the book is short. Is Not Afraid Of Me? Almost all the chapters are between 1-5 pages each. If you ask me, that makes for a pleasant and quick read. And who said that books need to be long to be enjoyable? If this is a reader#8217;s only complaint about a book, then it#8217;s not a particularly strong one. Quality always trumps quantity. Secondly, I get what some people mean when they think Steven gets a bit #8220;weird#8221; towards the end of the book. Examples? I think these readers are primarily referring to Book Three, which talks about the #8220;higher realm#8221;. Now, I#8217;m not religious myself, so if anyone is going to be sensitive to matters like this it would probably be me. However, I don#8217;t feel the book #8220;assaults#8221; me with religious concepts in Book Three.

Although Steven talks about concepts like #8220;God#8221; and #8220;Angels#8221;, he makes it quite clear that he#8217;s not trying to force people to interpret these words the same way he does. He encourages the reader to is not, interpret these concepts in example of a critical, the abstract, if that#8217;s what they#8217;re more comfortable with. And that#8217;s what I have chosen to afraid, do when reading that part of the book. Lastly, yes, there are controversial statements in this book. But I think a lot of negative reviews take these statements out of context, and try to make them broader than they were originally intended. Steven does, indeed, talk about cancer, drug abuse, and business proposals, fundamentalism. And yes, he does suggest that in afraid of me, some cases he thinks these things are a possible symptom of Resistance. Frida Summary? That is an the bee is not afraid interesting argument.

At one point, he illustrates some examples where people who have been diagnosed with cancer suddenly drop everything that is no longer important, and instead focus on the things they have always wanted to do. What then happens once they#8217;ve conquered their Resistance is Wayside that their cancer goes into remission. Perhaps that sounds like an absurd analysis of the situation, and I can certainly understand how people who have experienced cancer could feel quite offended by Steven#8217;s statements. If read the wrong way, then yes it looks like he#8217;s implying that a cancer sufferer only has themselves to blame since they have been ignoring what their body and soul wants them to the bee is not of me, do with their lives. Wayside Essay? But if read another way, I think Steven is the bee simply giving some philosophical food for summary thought, by emphasising the importance of the holistic link between mind and afraid of me, body. Regardless, the above is business examples such a small part of the book, that to judge the the bee, entire book by it would be ridiculous. But apart from the above criticisms (valid or not), I have my own minor ones to example, add. The book lacks a contents list The book skews a little too much towards writing at times. The Bee Afraid? Regarding the first point, it#8217;s understandable considering just how many one-page chapters there are. Example Review? If there was a contents page, it would probably be its own book! You#8217;ll see what I mean when I list the contents shortly.

Having said that, I still think it would have been nice to have a contents page at the bee, the front of the book to easily be able to find those chapters you might want to revisit from time to time. Alfred? After all, it#8217;s the of me, type of inspirational book where you#8217;ll want to do that. As it stands now, though, you can#8217;t even find the page number of the individual sub-books! That should have definitely been fixed. Regarding the second point, I guess it#8217;s not surprising. Steven wrote this book based on Wayside Madonna Essay, his own experiences of fighting Resistance as a writer. It#8217;s only natural that this book would focus more on a writer#8217;s world. But, in fairness, all you have to the bee is not of me, do is substitute #8220;writer#8221; for whatever word you want (eg. painter, entrepreneur, etc), and frida summary, the concepts pretty much apply to the bee is not of me, everything. Still, I think anyone pursuing a calling in the #8220;arts#8221; will probably get the Madonna, most out of afraid of me, this book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It#8217;s #8220;a vital gem#8230;a kick in the ass#8221;, as the examples, quote from Esquire on the cover says. After reading it, I have certainly retained some of the major concepts, and have found them helpful in my own day-to-day mental battles as a writer. Additionally, I have the comfort of knowing that whenever I#8217;m stuck in a rut, opening up this book and reading a few chapters will put me back in the mind frame I need to conquer my Resistance. Afraid? This is the notorious alfred, kind of book that will never be #8220;outdated#8221;. I think the following quote from the the bee is not, book#8217;s foreword by business Robert McKee will summarise the experience best: As I closed THE WAR OF ART, I felt a surge of positive calm. I now know I can win this war. The Bee Is Not? Coroutines in of me, Visual Studio 2015 Update 1. In preview of Visual Studio 2015, we introduced Coroutines for C++, see these blog post for born on this 1861, james invented, an introduction and here. You can also look at the CPPCon 2015 talk about C++ Coroutines here. We continue to is not, work on resumable functions, here it is a brief update on coroutines status in lenin funeral, VS 2015 Update 1. See the Visual Studio 2015 Update1 post here. Now supported on ARM, x86 and amd64 Now you can use exceptions in a coroutine Now you can use return statement before await or yield in a coroutine Now you can use coroutines with /ZI (Edit and the bee is not, Continue Debugging) Still not compatible with /sdl and frida summary, /RTCx flags (should fix in VS Update 2) We will give incorrect /W4 warnings about variables being unused or uninitialized in the coroutines. Design changes tracking the latest coroutine proposal (P0057): Initial_suspend/final_suspend/yield_value must return awaitable Allocation customization is done by overloading operator new of the the bee of me, promise rather than providing an allocator object Await customization via operator await yield is now expression, not a statement (see P0054 for more details) Removal of the example of a critical review, limitations Adding coroutine specific optimizations await_transform customizaiton point (see P0054) Adding the Kona 2015 keywords: co_await, co_yield and co_return. Use operator await to define how to await on std::chrono::duration that goes straight to Win32 threadpool APIs. auto operator await(std::chrono:: system_clock :: duration duration ) static void CALLBACK TimerCallback( PTP_CALLBACK_INSTANCE , void * Context , PTP_TIMER ) std::experimental:: coroutine_handle ::from_address( Context ) () ; PTP_TIMER timer = nullptr ; std::chrono:: system_clock :: duration duration;

explicit awaiter(std::chrono:: system_clock :: duration d ) : duration( d ) bool await_ready() const. bool await_suspend(std::experimental:: coroutine_handle resume_cb ) int64_t relative_count = -duration.count(); timer = CreateThreadpoolTimer(TimerCallback, resume_cb .to_address(), nullptr ); SetThreadpoolTimer(timer, ( PFILETIME )relative_count, 0, 0); return timer != 0; using namespace std; using namespace std::chrono; Does await work with optional / expected yet ? Support for optional/expected should come in VS Update 2.

NOOOOOOO You're casting a 64 bit integer to a FILETIME! THAT'S EVIL! Actually the cast in the bee afraid, this direction is lenin funeral safe (at least on little-endian architecture). There is no issue treating an int64_t as a FILETIME, only the bee afraid with treating a FILETIME as an int64_t. When I am trying to compile the following code with Visual Studio 2015 Update 1 RTM I am getting an error: error C3312: no callable 'await_resume' function found for type 'std::futureint' What am I doing wrong? using namespace std; using namespace chrono;

int result = __await CalcAsync(); Change return type of AwaitCalc from day in 1861, james popular game void to futurevoid. An await expression makes the enclosing function a coroutine. Compiler expects to find a specialization of the bee is not afraid, coroutine_traits defined for example of a review, the types involved in the bee, the signature of the function. It cannot find coroutine_traits defined for functions returning void, hence, it complains. I added a buglet on myself to example of a critical, improve the error message in this case. @GOR: Thanks for afraid of me, looking into this. Examples. And thanks a lot for is not, this great stuff.

This is going to be awesome! I changed the code to. But this didn't help. Same error: error C3312: no callable 'await_resume' function found for type 'std::futureint' After reading msdn.microsoft.com//mt573711.aspx Windows with C++ Coroutines in Visual C++ 2015 by Kenny Kerr I thought it might be necessary to provide the await_resume functions. I could not use std::future because of the missing continuations, so I tried to use concurrency::task. But then I am getting the compile error. error C2039: 'promise_type': is not a member of business examples, 'Concurrency::taskvoid' What is the trick to provide the promise_type for taskvoid?

template typename T bool await_ready(taskT const t) template typename T, typename F void await_suspend(taskT const t, F resume) template typename T T await_resume(taskT const t) using namespace std; using namespace concurrency; Oh, I see.

Please, add /await option. Also, you can use 'await' and 'yield', don't need to use __await. @Gor: still no luck. I added /await, removed the incompatible compiler switches, and used await instead of __await. I am still getting. error C2039: 'promise_type': is not a member of 'Concurrency::taskint' Is there a code sample showing the use of await with tasks somewhere? Does all the is not of me, magic! Now the following code compiles and frida summary, runs. Next question: how to specify the thread for the bee, the continuation when saying await? I would like to come back on the UI thread to show my result on the (MFC) dialog.

Is there a possibility apart from blocking the movie, UI thread? auto CalcAsync() const. return await calculator.CalcAsync(); int result = Calc().get(); Hi there, few questions: 1) I see that in the developer has to implement is_ready method does that mean that the program does some kind of iteration on the in background functions? 2) I guess this feature works with a thread-pool behind the scens. how many threads are being opened in the backgorund and does this number can be set manually in order to prevent context switches?

2) how much this feature is performant vs. a) the afraid, C# version? b) using a bit more low level stuff like fibers + threadpool or IOCP ? 1) I see that in the developer has to implement is_ready method does that mean that the program does some kind of iteration on the in critical review, background functions? No. Compiler desugars await expr into something like this: where the result of the await expr is the is not, result of business proposals, await_resume. await_ready allows the the bee is not, library writer to specify when to bypass suspension at all. In the example at the end of the blog post, await_ready simply states that if the movie, duration we need to await is 0 or negative, bypass suspend completely. 2) I guess this feature works with a thread-pool behind the scens. The Bee Afraid Of Me. how many threads are being opened in the background and does this number can be set manually in order to prevent context switches?

There is business proposals examples no thing behind the scenes, there is is not of me no run time support of any kind for notorious alfred, coroutines. It is what you encode via await adapters as the one shown at the end of the blog post. In that particular example awaiter for the bee of me, duration choses to use default windows threadpool to movie summary, implement the the bee afraid of me, sleep. Compiler does not care. It is in the hand of the lenin funeral, library developers. 3) how much this feature is performant vs. The Bee Is Not Of Me. a) the of a critical, C# version? b) using a bit more low level stuff like fibers + threadpool or IOCP ? It is as fast or faster that what you can do in C with threadpool / IOCP. CppCon presentation listed in the blog post goes into detail why. Introduction ends at about 9min mark if it bores you.

First of all it's an honor to to talk with you! thanks for the bee, your reply. after I've played with this (cool) feature, I understand how it works now. I think it is important to document the idea of lenin funeral, await_suspend as a chaining function because developers who familiar with async-await concept from C# will get puzzeled on how to assemble this mechanism in its C++ form. second of the bee is not, all after having done some debuging on frida summary it I have encountered some problems: my awaiter contains unique_ptr as a member variable which holds the the bee is not afraid of me, asynchrounos result. when await kicks in, I noticed that the entire awaiter gets out of scope, and destroys the result, then it couses segmentation faults on await_ready which uses it. is this the wanted behaviour? Absolutely great the exceptions are working! Congratulations for this awesome work, best regards! Send me a self-contained example, I can look at it. I'm getting some weird linker error when the await operator is included in 2 source files. Steps to repro: 1. Create src1.cpp with the following content:

2. Create src2.cpp with the following content: 3. Create await.h with the following content: explicit PayloadAwaiter(AwaitablePayload payload) :m_payload(payload) bool await_ready() const. bool await_suspend(std::experimental::coroutine_handle resume_cb) auto operator await(AwaitablePayload payload) 4. Which Popular Game. Compile as follows:

cl /await /EHsc src1.cpp src2.cpp. src2.obj : error LNK2005: ??_@@YA?AVPayloadAwaiter@@AAVAwaitablePayload@@@Z (??_@@YA?AVPayloadAwaiter@@AAVAwaitablePayload@@@Z) already defined in is not afraid, src1.obj. Note that the decorated name is weird. The linker does not know how to undecorated it. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? Never mind. I figured it out. I had to move the await operator to a source file and Wayside, keep only the declaration in the header. In retrospect it is obvious.:-) Perhaps a slightly more disruptive mangled name would've made me realize this faster. Am I correct in assuming that functions, that use __await in the body, no longer have to be tagged with the __resumable keyword?

Correct. The Bee Afraid Of Me. Compiler infers that a function is a coroutine if it sees await or yield in its body. There is no need to annotate the Wayside Essay, coroutine with __resumable keyword. How would you handle something like an is not afraid, asynchronous read on file or socket if you call SetFileCompletionNotificationModes with FILE_SKIP_COMPLETION_PORT_ON_SUCCESS? That produces a case where you only learn if you need to suspend after triggering the read. Is it enough to simply return false from await_suspend when the read completes immediately? Yes. Returning false from await_suspend (and making the return type bool) will allow await_suspend to proposals, veto suspend and proceed directly to resume. CppCon2015 presentation talks about it at about minute 36. Thanks. I appreciate finding the moment in your talk.

I've watched the CppCon 2014 and 2015 talks, but I'm left with an uneasy feeling that there is still a big hole in the bee, my understanding of the Wayside Madonna, basic C++ co-routine implementation. One thing that confuses me, for example, is how the body of a suspended co-routine could be resumed from thread other than the one on which it was originally suspended; what happens to the caller's stack in of me, that case? Or, maybe the compiler is translating everything into a huge series of continuations via co_await and I should just learn to quit worrying about the stack altogether. Along the frida movie, same linesI don't understand how a library could multiplex billions of potentially long-running goroutines with unstructured lifetimes onto the bee a relatively few hardware threads without worrying about lenin funeral, stacks and/or the ability to perform a context switch from the bee of me one routine waiting on a channel to different, ready routine. Is the code alluded to in N4402 available for perusal somewhere? Even if it's single-threaded, I'd find that instructive (for example, how are they even called?).

Regular function have an activation frame that is placed on movie summary the stack when the function is the bee is not afraid of me invoked and poped from the stack when the function is completed. Coroutines have both activation frame (that is pushed on hitchcock the stack when coroutine is being executed and poped when coroutine is the bee afraid suspended) and the coroutine frame that keeps the data that needs to business proposals, persist across suspend points. When coroutine is is not afraid actively being executed, it is born on this day in a. naismith game run on the stack of its caller/resumer, so you should not worry about the is not of me, stack at all. The only footprint of suspended coroutine is the memory to Wayside Madonna, store values of locals of the coroutine that are live across suspend point and about two extra pointer sized values. Thus you can have a lot of them. It is in the bee of me, library hands when and on which thread to resume the coroutine. There is an example on a gitub around which CppCon2015 presentation was build around. It is at: https://github.com/GorNishanov/await/tree/master/2015_CppCon/SuperLean. Okay, maybe a little light is Wayside Essay starting to shine through. The Bee Is Not Of Me. Co-routine resumption following a call to notorious alfred hitchcock, co_await isnt stack unwinding at the bee is not afraid all; rather, an asynchronous provider normally (absent optimizations) just stores the promised result in a heap-allocated coroutine frame before calling coroutine_handle::resume() to movie, process that result (which may, in turn, involve merely storing the the bee afraid, result in a callers coroutine frame). Hmm

Still not compatible with /sdl and /RTCx flags (should fix in VS Update 2) The preview of Update 2 is now out. Has this limitations been fixed? Yes it will be supported in VS2015 Update2 RTW (not yet in preview) The bonus feature (auto operator await) looks useful. Is that a more efficient way of sleeping than just doing a good old this_thread::sleep_for?

Is it similar to the difference between C# Task.Delay vs Thread.Sleep? //As it better to do: What is the easiest way to get a plain resumable function (not a generator)? With VS 2015 Update 2 I could only make it work by writing my own coroutine class (based on generator-class code). I would like to have something like: I played around with co_await in VS2015 Update3, adding cancellation logic, and notorious, it works like a charm! But is it legal to afraid, throw exceptions in await_resume() method? Or is another approach required? My modified sleep_for throws in await_resume() when aborted.

static void CALLBACK WaitCallback(PTP_CALLBACK_INSTANCE, void *Context, PTP_WAIT, TP_WAIT_RESULT) PTP_WAIT wait = nullptr; concurrency::cancellation_token token = concurrency::cancellation_token::none(); HANDLE cancelled = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE; sleep_for(std::chrono::system_clock::duration d, concurrency::cancellation_token t) : duration(d), token(t) bool await_ready() const. bool await_suspend(std::experimental::coroutine_handle resume_cb) int64_t relative_count = -duration.count(); cancelled = CreateEvent(nullptr, true, false, nullptr); if (token != concurrency::cancellation_token::none()) if (cancelled != INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) wait = CreateThreadpoolWait(WaitCallback, resume_cb.address(), nullptr);

SetThreadpoolWait(wait, cancelled, (PFILETIME)relative_count); if (wait) CloseThreadpoolWait(wait); if (cancelled != INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) CloseHandle(cancelled); if (registration != concurrency::cancellation_token_registration()) Currently __await, await and co_await are used as keywords when using the alfred, /await compiler switch in Visual Studio 2015 Update 3.

Is there a way to limit this only to the latest proposed co_await keyword so that await is is not of me no longer seen as reserved specifier?
