Career Construction Theory: Conceptual and Empirical

Part 8 - Examples of Good and Bad Writing. Learning to write often works best by example. The following are excerpts from theory, nine first-year student essays. Most of the mother of hamlet, examples are bad, although I did find a two good examples in the bunch. In most cases, the career construction, names and dates from the rejected which of hamilton's, essays have been changed to construction theory, not compromise the subject matter for mother future students (in other words, don't use any of the apparent research information here in your papers). Construction. I have tried to categorize the errors as best as I could. Errors or bad portions are usually bolded to which of hamilton's economic, help you identify them. Smith was a religious, Christian man. Career Theory. His notion of semantic confusion monads included contextual references to God. He believed that God controls the harmony of life through these monads. The essay then goes on to discuss these monads in theory, a Christian context.

Had the Essay Plans, student omitted the above sentences, however, the discussion of religion would have been completely out of place, given the essay's topic. But since the person being discussed had religious views that affected his theories and work, it is relevant to mention the religious aspect. Construction Theory. Had Smith's religion not been a direct influence on his work, it would have been irrelevant. Similarly, you wouldn't mention other things about someone in an essay if it wasn't relevant to the topic. Mother. For example, it is irrelevant to mention a scientist's race in an essay about their discovery unless the race impacted the discovery. An example of this might be if a black scientist's prime motivation to find a cure for sickle cell anemia was because that disease strikes black people in proportionally higher numbers. If the same scientist was researching some aspect of physics, it would probably not be relevant to mention the construction, race at all. An introductory paragraph: On March 4, 1849, John Smith was born to mother, Anna Bradcock Smith and James Smith. Although certainly not of humble origins, John was acquainted with several prominent and influential men of career construction theory politics with whom he discussed matters of mathematics, history, science, logic, law, and theology.

Smith was brilliant in each of these fields, but he became known particularly for mother his contributions in career, the fields of philosophy, mathematics, and logistics. This paper will not only shed light on some of Smith's theories and words regarding these three areas, but will also tell of the Essay Relocation Plans, events in his life that made him the man that he was. This is the introduction to a chronologically-ordered essay about Smith's life and discoveries. As such, the choice to begin with his date of birth is construction, a good one. The paragraph summarizes the and Climate Change, fields touched by Smith and also mentions the key areas he studied. The paper sets up an expectation for the reader of career construction both a detailed explanation of Smith's discoveries and anecdotes describing his personality. The sentence structure is grammatically sound and flows well. In the late 1650's , Smith's mother returned to mother, London , she then pulled him out of school with the intent to make him a farmer . Apostrophes indicate possessiveness or contractions, not plurality.

The decade is the 1650s. The sentence is construction, a run-on. It should either end after London, beginning a new sentence with She then, or the she then should be changed to and. To make someone a farmer is to create a farmer for them. The student meant: to turn him into a farmer or to encourage him to title generator, be a farmer. Smith invented the career, widgetiscope and paved the way for future widget watching. All-the-while remaining a simple and humble man who considered himself to be part of a team working for dissertation the greater good. The bolded part is not a complete sentence. Career Construction Theory. The entire thing should be one sentence.

All-the-while does not require hyphenation. The two differing approaches of development already described, eventually led to alice dunbar nelson, the development of the two original branches of widgetry; fingleish and construction theory fnordleish. This sentence is Action Plans and Climate, mispunctuated. The comma is career construction theory, confusing and nelson should be removed, and the semicolon should be a colon. Another of Smith's ideas was the method of differentiation.

The university re-opened after the plague in construction, 1667. Smith was elected to a minor fellowship, and awarded a major fellowship after he received his Master's Degree (Bogus 4). After the realization that Calculus was important, and was being recognized, a document to record all of the theories became a necessity. The Methodis Differantium, the document that contained the elements of the theory of differentiation, was created in alice dunbar nelson, 1667. Smith believed he was being pulled in two directions when it came to publishing his theories and making his work known. He felt a need for theory fame and fortune, yet on the other hand he had an abundant fear of rejection. To the dismay of many future mathematicians, it was never published because of dissertation generator Smith's fear of criticism.

Since he was not focusing on publishing his work, Smith pursued his career as a professor. This so-called paragraph is an utter mess. There are far too many ideas in it, all of which are strung together haphazardly without any logical flow. I'll try to dissect and rewrite it, but I won't make errors bold because the entire paragraph would be bold if I did. First, let's pick out the different topics being addressed: the method of differentiation the university re-opening after the plague Smith's ascension through the university ranks the need of a document detailing differentiation, which was eventually created Smith's mental state, desires and fears. Now, if we replace each sentence with the number of the corresponding idea, we can see what a jumbled mess this is: 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3. Don't introduce a paragraph with one topic and then leap to another topic in the next sentence. Construction Theory. While it may sometimes be necessary to mention something as an alice dunbar, aside to complement the topic, the return to the topic should be swift and easy to understand.

Don't bounce around within the paragraph as this student has done. Another problem: there doesn't seem to be a coherent timeline within the paragraph. Did the construction, university re-open in 1667, or was the semantic, plague in 1667? Is the student saying that Smith was elected to a minor fellowship that year or another year? Similarly, when did the major fellowship and career Master's Degree come in? It's unlikely to have all happened in one year, though it is possible. Rich Picture. The document was created in 1667, it seems, but when did Smith decide not to publish and seek work as a professor instead? Also 1667? It sounds like that was a very busy year for construction theory poor Smith!

The sentences themselves are also awkwardly constructed, making the entire thing hard to understand. I'll make some assumptions regarding the confusing date information. Here is confusion, how this information should have been presented: Smith's ideas on the method of differentiation were gaining recognition in construction, the mathematical community, which made it necessary for him to alice dunbar, produce a document detailing all of his theories on the subject. Thus, when the university re-opened in career construction, 1667 following the plague and Smith was elected to a minor fellowship, he wrote Methodis Differantium. Although Smith wished to attain fame and confusion fortune, he also feared rejection. This dichotomy resulted in his failure to publish Methodis Differantium; a failure that would be mourned by mathematicians well into the future. Still, Smith was awarded a major fellowship after receiving his Master's Degree in career theory, [insert year]. Since he was not interested in publishing his work, he concentrated instead on pursuing a position as a professor. Queen Esmerelda knighted Jones in 1705 to alice dunbar nelson, be given the career, title of Sir Joe Smith, which made him the title generator, first scientist to theory, be so honored for his work (Bogus) . The phrase to be given is awkward here. Alice Dunbar. It would be better written: Queen Esmerelda knighted Jones in 1705, which gave him the title of Sir.

Who else could be honoured for Smith's work other than Smith? It should say: . which made him the first man to be honored for scientific work. There probably should be a page number listed in the citation. Jones had a main idea of analytic geometry. What does this mean? Does the student mean that one of Jones' main ideas concerned analytic geometry? Does he mean that one of the career construction theory, main ideas of analytic geometry was conceived by Jones? Or does he mean something else entirely? This makes little sense and is very awkward. Whether Smith made no use of the manuscript from rich picture, which he had copied abstracts , or whether he had previously invented the widgetiscope, are questions on which at this distance of time no direct evidence is available . If Smith made no use of the manuscript, he can't have used it to copy abstracts. This is a very awkward way of saying that the construction, events in question happened so long ago that there is no longer sufficient evidence to answer certain questions.

It would be better written: Questions as to whether Smith made further use of the manuscript from which he copied abstracts or whether he had previously invented the widgetiscope are rooted so far in the past that it is impossible to gather sufficient direct evidence to provide answers. This is still a bit awkward. It's best when broken up into alice dunbar nelson, smaller sentences: There are still questions as to whether Smith made further use of the manuscript from which he copied abstracts or whether he had previously invented the widgetiscope. Such questions are rooted so far in the past, however, that it is career, impossible to gather sufficient direct evidence to provide answers. Smith formed a political plan to try to persuade the Germans to attack the French due to him not agreeing with their political agendas and this proved the means of his visiting Hamburg. Due to him not agreeing with is a very awkward way of saying: because he disagreed with. Dissertation Title. The second bolded part should be a separate sentence. Proved the career, means of his visiting is Essay Action Plans, a very awkward way of saying is why he visited. Jones explained ideas too enormous to understand, and theory simplified problems too complex to approach.

Not only is this hyperbole, it's also logically impossible. Dissertation Title Generator. If the ideas were too complicated to construction theory, understand, Jones couldn't have understood them himself. Action And Climate Change. If the problems were too complex to approach, Jones could not have approached them. Mismatched Words, Phrases, and Pronouns. After marrying Elizabeth, Smith's father fell ill for several months. After no sign of recovery, a lawyer was summoned to the manor. A will was drawn up, including one hundred acres of land, the career theory, manor house, livestock, grain, and Smith Senior's death (Bogus 10). His mother gave birth to Smith three months after Smith senior died.

He was premature after suffering from illness due to the shock of her husband's passing during the of hamlet, fall . The phrase after no sign of recovery is not properly attached to Smith's father. Instead, it is saying that the lawyer did not recover from something. A will does not include land, a house, etc. Career Construction. It states to whom such things are bequeathed. This should say: A will was drawn up leaving one hundred acres of land, the manor house, livestock and grain to [whomever]. Nelson. I don't even understand how and construction theory Smith Senior's death fits into this sentence. His in the sentence His mother gave birth. refers to the antecedent Smith Senior. Thus, Smith Senior's mother gave birth to Smith Senior's son. That would necessitate incest, and is clearly not what the Essay Action and Climate Change, student meant to say. They should have simply said Elizabeth gave birth.

Who else but someone's mother gives birth to them anyway? Given the confusions regarding the various Smiths, it would have been better if the career construction theory, student had used first names during this part of the essay. There is inconsistency in capitalization. It is Smith Senior once, and Smith senior another time. The he in dunbar nelson, he was premature again refers to the wrong antecedent.

Smith Senior was not premature. Smith did not suffer illness due to construction, the shock of Smith Senior's passing. Alice Nelson. Elizabeth did. This sentence says that Smith suffered the illness. The student suddenly introduces the phrase during the construction, fall when no other mention of the season has been made. This could be confused with Smith Senior dying from a fall. Lastly, the mother of hamlet, inverse relationship between area and the tangent were never attained. The relationship is construction, singular, even though it refers to multiple elements. Thus, the verb were should be singular as well, and changed to was. It was this century where many of the worlds most honorable and highly respected mathematicians created what we know today as calculus. A century is not a place, it is a section of dunbar time.

Say it is a place where. or a time when. In this case, It was this century when. Adding an 's' without an apostrophe in this case is pluralization, not indicative of career construction possession. The student means world's. But perhaps the largest obstacle , which the Greeks could not overcome, were their insufficient number and measuring system . Were is plural, but obstacle and system are singular. It should be was. Tragically at the age of six, Smith's father died. This says that Smith's father died at which of hamilton's economic the age of six. The student means: Tragically, when Smith was six years old his father died. Jones, now familiar with Smith's discoveries, wrote Smith a letter soon after the publication of his discoveries.

After the publication of whose discoveries: Jones' or Smith's? Jones reasoned that if he could calculate the angles of the theory, projected colour, a new law of refraction could be made . People can make legal laws, but natural or scientific laws are discovered. To make a new law of of hamlet refraction, Jones would have to alter physics. During the seventeenth century, the construction theory, inhabitants of mother of hamlet England did not realize the importance of scientific advancement. Inhabitants could well mean non-human creatures, and is thus a poor choice of a word.

Are we to understand that ALL of the people in England failed to realize the career theory, importance of scientific advancement for an entire century? It would have been better if the student had said most people in England. At the current time, the dominant belief was that light traveled in alice, wave . The current time is the moment the reader is reading the sentence. The student meant to career, say that the belief was such during the historical time period being discussed. Alice Dunbar Nelson. Current should be omitted. Career Construction Theory. The phrase in wave has an error. It should either be in dunbar, waves or in a wave. Both may be correct, but such an error can be misunderstood if one is incorrect. This would likely have been caught if the student had read the paper out career construction, loud. Secondly, Jones' reliance on Essay Action Plans geometric algebra rather than symbolic notation created considerable impedance to the identification of solutions of computational features found frequently to different problems. Here is an example of a student not knowing the proper meaning of a word.

Impedance means opposition to the flow of electric current. It does not mean the same as to impede, which is to career construction theory, be an which, obstacle. This could be an instance where a student used the thesaurus in a word processor to come up with a word without bothering to check if the word fit the context. It could also simply be that the student had mislearned the word themselves. Incidentally, a quick check of MS Word 97 shows synonyms to impedance to career construction, be obstruction, block, baffle, hindrance, breakwater, fin, and maze.

So here is direct proof that you shouldn't always trust what a word processor thesaurus tells you is an equivalent word. Be diligent and alice dunbar nelson look up unfamiliar words in the dictionary before using them in your essay. In studying widgetry, it serves as great importance that one is aware of the two systems of career construction theory widgetry; fingleish and fnordleish. Something does not serve as great importance, and one being aware doesn't fit either. This is dissertation title, a student trying to sound fancy but instead making no sense. The sentence should read: In studying widgetry, one should be aware of the two systems of widgetry; fingleish and fnordleish. It was thought that Jones hated his stepfather and his mother, partly for abandoning him at such a young age.

Who thought so? This entire statement, which implies something that cannot be proven and is thus not a basic fact, had no attribution in the essay. Since it was about someone historical and the student couldn't possibly have known this unless they got it from a source, it was plagiarism to include it without attribution. Smith managed one friendship through this time and the value of that is always questioned. Who is questioning the value? There is no attribution to explain who questions it or to prove that it is questioned by anyone other than the student.

What precisely is being questioned? The value of only having one friend, or the value of the one friendship to Smith in career, particular? . which means that the cut in the # of points is equal to the degree of the curve. Using the # symbol instead of the word number is a bad short cut, and certainly inappropriate for a formal essay. Smith also helped to improve the scientific community ; his focus was mainly regarding widgetry. How does a focus on a subject help to improve a community?

It might improve the understanding of the subject in the community, but does that improve the community itself? This is a badly worded assertion. If it truly did benefit the scientific community as a whole, the student should cite a source demonstrating that to be the case. Dissertation. No attribution was present. In one day, John's attitude towards school changed for the better. A boy ranked just above him kicked him in the stomach. Career. At the end of the day John challenged the boy to a fight. Even though John was much smaller than his opponent, his determination overtook the boy. Winning the fight was still not enough.

John applied himself in of hamlet, class, and soon became the career construction, top student in the school. This entire paragraph introduces an anecdote for the purpose of mother of hamlet explaining what drove John to become a better student. Career. Incredibly, it manages to completely fail to mention the relationship between the anecdote and John's new-found classroom enthusiasm. The relationship is implied and the reader can guess that John wished to beat the boy in more than just a physical fight, and confusion thus worked hard to construction, outrank the boy in the classroom, but that is not stated. Dunbar Nelson. The paragraph is very choppy and the sentences do not flow well. Read it out construction, loud, and you'll hear how it sounds like a grade school book instead of a university essay. During this time, Smith constructed a water clock. Nelson. He constructed the theory, clock out of an old box.

This is choppy. It could be easily combined into one sentence. Jones became began to study motion. This error was probably due to a sentence that once legitimately contained the word became being edited without became being removed. If the student had read the essay out loud or given it to a friend to dissertation generator, read, this error likely would have been noticed. Yet, in 1679, Jones would discover that his initial calculation the Moon's distance from Earth was incorrect. Here is construction theory, another example of dissertation generator a simple error of omission that could have been caught if the student had read the essay aloud or given it to a friend to read. The word of should be between calculation and the. That one small error makes the entire sentence awkward and confusing. If the instructor has to reread the sentence to construction theory, try to which of hamilton's programs?, understand its meaning, the flow of the essay is interrupted.

If this happens often enough in theory, the essay, it gives an overall bad impression on congress rejected which of hamilton's economic what otherwise might be a very good paper in terms of research. More examples of errors that could have been caught if the career, students had bothered to read their essay: One of Smith's main contribution was his use of. Widgetry emphasized the notion of the infinite widget, which in fact cam as a great service to Smith in alice dunbar nelson, that it served as an career construction theory, important too in helping explain his branch of widgetry. Jones might have in fact perputuated the ideas, but he was also at a loss when he could not make good sense of mother them from the beginning. Admiration for career construction theory Smith grew in the filed of widgetry. With Jones' encouragement, Smith drafter a number of monographs on religious topics. Smith considers out universe to be a gravitational system. On August 10, 1777, Jones was ent a letter from. In later research , it was proven that Jones was incorrect and rich picture science rejected his theories about light until the next century. Thus, it was scientifically proven that Jones' theories about quanta (tiny particulate packets of energy) were indeed correct . Career Construction Theory. The wave formulation was also correct . When was this later research?

Who performed the research? In discussing whether someone was proven incorrect or not, it is alice nelson, a good idea to fully explain who did the theory, proving when, and possibly even how they came to their conclusion. Rich Picture. These sentences contradict each other. Was Jones proven incorrect or correct? Does the student mean that Jones was erroneously proven incorrect, but science later found that he was correct after all? Or was Jones correct about some things and not others? The use of career construction theory Thus implies causality. How does the proof that Jones is incorrect and the rejection by science suddenly become scientific proof of his theory being correct? Regardless of semantic what the student meant by construction, the flip from incorrect to correct, there is nothing given to establish causality. It's disappointing to see such sloppiness as this in an essay.

This particular essay featured clipart, so it was obviously done on a computer with a modern word processor. It clearly wasn't spell-checked. Such complete disregard is automatically indicative of a student who doesn't care about their final product, and while the error itself is minor, it gives a bad impression to the grader. In fact, this essay had several spelling errors that could have been caught. That's inexcusable at the university level. It was also during this time that he traveled to alice, his uncle's place in Brunswick.

Place is colloquial. Use home, apartment, residence or other such appropriate word instead. Smith attempted to obtain his doctorate of law degree at the University of Anytown but was denied because positions were being held for the older students -- and Smith was much too young. Smith's secretary claims that he was told many times, however, that Smith was denied admission because of negative feelings that the Dean's wife held for him. Smith's secretary is probably dead, since this essay is about someone from the career construction theory, 19th century. Mother Of Hamlet. Therefore, they no longer claim anything. Career. It should be past tense. Rejected Of Hamilton's Economic Programs?. Since the student doesn't cite this, there is an implication that perhaps the career construction, secretary is mother of hamlet, not dead and the student went so far as to interview the secretary personally. That is, of course, quite unlikely, meaning that this student has plagiarised this information from one of construction their sources.

The following are a few concepts that form the basis of Leibnizian calculus: [followed by three bulleted paragraphs comprised mostly of direct quotation] Using bullets in dissertation generator, a formal essay is career theory, rarely appropriate. It is preferable to write out the bulleted information into of hamlet, proper paragraph form. This student seems to have been too lazy to bother paraphrasing a bunch of direct quotations into a formal essay structure. Along came the Joe Smith, a mathematician considered by career construction, numerous scholars to be a pioneer of dunbar calculus, including other renowned mathematician, Bill Jones. The Joe Smith? There has only been one? The student means another, not other.

Sloppy. The first page of the essay starts with: have been developed (5). The second page starts with the header Introduction and the opening paragraph. Clearly, the student stapled the pages out of order. What a sloppy mistake! Pages should be numbered unless you're specifically instructed not to for some reason, and you should always ensure that all of the pages are present and in proper order before binding the essay. If the instructor has to begin by career construction theory, figuring out what the heck is going on, they will automatically have a bad impression of your essay and possibly of you. Jones was quite a busy man in programs?, that along with his position in the Court of Mainz, he also managed to serve as Baron Johann Christian von Boineburg as secretary, librarian, lawyer, advisor, assistant, and most importantly, friend. Quite a busy man is a bit colloquial. A busy man would do. The first as is an error, since Jones did not serve as the Baron, he served the Baron.

This may have been caught if the student had read their essay out loud. His Chummy, Bill Jones, who Smith shared a room with until his resignation from construction, this fellowship in 1683. Chummy should only be included if it was Smith's actual word for Jones. If this is the congress which of hamilton's economic, case, it is a quotation from a source and should be cited. If not, it is colloquial and should just say His friend Bill Jones. Who should be whom in this case. A site called Grammar and career construction Style has information on how to use who and whom. This isn't even a complete sentence. Smith was born prematurely and was so small when he was born that they thought he might not live. Repeating that he was born is redundant.

Who does they refer to? Doctors? Parents? Relatives? Townsfolk? It is a pronoun without an antecedent. In this publication, Jones has a discourse between the belief systems of the natural philosophical world around him. Has is the wrong word here because the mother, essay is about a person who is now dead. Dead people don't have discourse with anyone in the present, so the word should at least be had.

But even had is awkward, and a better word would be wrote. Discourse means to converse, especially orally. One does not speak orally in a publication. It is written. This word should be omitted. Between denotes at least two participants, but Jones is the career construction, only one having the supposed discourse. Title Generator. This too should be omitted. Natural philosophical world is career construction theory, confusing.

Does the student mean the natural, philosophical world, which would be the world described as both natural and philosophical? Or do they mean natural philosophical world, in which natural modifies philosophical and not world, in which case the grammatically correct phrase would be naturally philosophical world? This would be better written as: In this publication, Jones wrote of the belief systems of the natural, philosophical world around him. or, depending on the answer to the fourth point: In this publication, Jones wrote of the belief systems of the naturally philosophical world around him. He was home for approximately 18 months, according to Jones the 18 months was the most predominant time period of his life. This is a run-on sentence.

It should either end between 18 months and according, or it should be rewritten to make it a proper sentence. 18 months is repeated for no reason. 18 months is dissertation generator, plural, so it should be 18 months were not 18 months was. Predominant means superior especially in power or numbers. Career Construction. Something cannot be most superior. Most should be omitted.

Predominant is not the best word in of hamlet, this case anyway. If the student means it was the most powerful time of Jones' life, they should be clear about that. Construction Theory. If they mean it was the rich picture, most superior numerical time of his life, then he logically cannot have been more than 36 months old. Simpson was content after his ability to reproduce Smith's experiment. Theory. Jones was not that easy, the two men fought constantly. The student probably means that Simpson was content once he was able to reproduce Smith's experiment.

The current phrasing doesn't quite say that, and is awkward and confusing. Jones was not that easy to what? The student probably means Jones was not that easy to satisfy or something equivalent. This is a run-on sentence. Essay Plans And Climate Change. It should end after easy, or be rewritten to be grammatically correct. Which two men?

Simpson and Jones or Smith and Jones? The information on physics before this section is important to understanding whom Newton was, but arguably, his greatest advancements were in career theory, the field of mathematics, most importantly Calculus. Incorrect use of whom. Should be who. A site called Grammar and confusion Style has information on how to use who and whom. Construction Theory. There should not be a comma between arguably and his. There is alice, no citation as to anyone arguing that Newton's greatest advancements were in mathematics. This might be because it would be difficult to career, prove in the face of the importance of Newtonian physics. Advancements is probably the wrong word. Achievements or discoveries would be better.

Newton's advancements are more likely to be funds paid in dissertation, advance of publication. The addition of most importantly is awkward. Construction Theory. Particularly would have been a better word. The use of greatest and most importantly referring to confusion, Calculus is hyperbole. Given that this essay was for a Calculus class, it sounds like a kiss-up. The declarations of superiority are superfluous, unattributed, probably erroneous, and possibly pandering. It's all very ugly. A concluding sentence: Smith's great work, theories, and studies will continue to live on forever in theory, the ever-changing world of science and mathematics . How can the student know that Smith's work will live on forever? That's an impossible assertion to make.

Work, theories and rich picture studies don't live. They exist, but they are not organic creatures. If the career, world is ever-changing, how again can the student know that Smith's work won't one day be considered nonsense? Or lost entirely? World is mother, singular, but it refers to two worlds, one of construction science and one of mathematics. This conclusion reeks of hyperbole. (So does the phrase reeks of Relocation and Climate Change hyperbole, but this is not a formal essay.) A scientist before Smith by the name of Jones knew that he could demonstrate the ration between two infinite sums. The phrasing here is a bit awkward.

It would be better phrased: Jones, a predecessor of Smith, knew that. Construction Theory. Ration is the wrong word. The student meant ratio. Rich Picture. This is one of those errors that a spell-check cannot find, but if the essay had been read aloud it may have been noticed. One man was proclaiming to be the inventor of the widgetiscope and another man was proclaiming the exact same thing; who is telling the truth? The main problem here is the change in tense. Career. You can't go from of hamlet, was to is if the subject remains fixed in time. Furthermore, it is incorrect to refer to someone who is dead as doing anything in the present besides being dead (and possibly rotting). A dead person is not telling anything right now, but they were in the past.

Try to avoid using the passive form was proclaiming and instead use proclaimed. Construction. This particular statement is also bad because of the subject matter. The student has already shown in the essay that both men happened to independently invent the rich picture, widgetiscope, but the issue is career, who deserved the title for inventing it first . So actually, neither one was necessarily lying, and the student should not make it appear that one or the other may have been doing so. You must be careful not to libel people. The phrasing here is congress which economic programs?, awkward and possibly a bit too conversational in the final question. Theory. A better way of of hamlet writing this would be: Two men proclaimed to be the inventor of calculus, but only one could be given the credit.

The argument was so drawn out that a decision was not easy to come by which worked against Smith's favor. Jones had been considered the career construction, sole inventor of the widgetiscope for rich picture fifteen years already, which gave him the upper hand. The student meant to say that the duration of the theory, argument caused Smith to lose. But because the student failed to title generator, put the necessary comma between the bolded words, this sentence actually says, by means of career theory a complicated string of multiple negatives, that it was not easy to confusion, come to a decision against Smith, meaning he won. This sentence would be better worded this way: Because the argument took so long, Smith lost. But then, at the beginning of the next paragraph, the theory, student writes: The argument took years to unravel and never really came to a definitive decision. This negates what the student had asserted before: that Smith lost because of the duration of the argument. This also repeats the fact that it was a long argument, which is redundant.

It was from the Greeks, where the rejected which economic programs?, underlying of widgetry emerged and set the basis of what widgetry has become. The Greeks are a people, not a place, so things come from whom, not where. The comma in this sentence should not be there. It sets up an theory, expectation that the portion after the comma is a separate clause, as in: It was from the Greeks, who also invented blodgetry, that widgetry came forth. Note that because the who is in the separate clause, it should not be whom. Rich Picture. The underlying what ? You can't just say the underlying of widgetry. It has to be the construction, underlying something of widgetry, whether that something is basis, foundation, etc. Although there was a time of intellectual heightening , there came a period of darkness in the development of mathematics (Ewards 45) . Intellectual heightening is an icky, awkward phrase.

Intellectual development would have been much better. In going over this old essay, I wondered if perhaps this was a typo of the name Edwards. I checked the Essay Change, bibliography to confirm the name, and discovered that nothing by Ewards, Edwards, or any similar name was there at all. Had this gone noticed when the paper was being graded, serious questions would have been raised as to the validity of the theory, student's sources and bibliography. Be sure to semantic confusion, list all sources in your bibliography, and be sure to spell them correctly when citing! One motive of theory Sumerian algebra was to impose on themselves a concepts that they could not fully understand and precisely compute, and for this reason, rejected concepts of irrational as numbers, all traces of the infinite, such as limit concepts, from semantic, their own mathematics. Motive applies to career, Sumerian algebra, not Sumerians.

Therefore, that motive cannot be imposed on themselves. It should be written: One motive of the Sumerians concerning their algebra was to impose on congress which of hamilton's themselves. although that is still an awkward phrase. Concepts should not be plural. This is sloppiness that probably could have been detected if the student had bothered to read over his essay. The sentence should end after compute. Construction. A new sentence should begin, For this reason. The word they should be put between reason and rejected to say: For this reason, they rejected concepts.

This sentence is so garbled with mismatched subclauses that adding another is just icky. Title. I'd put such as limit concepts in parenthesis, or rewrite the sentence to bring that idea out on career its own. If Greek rigor had surmounted their need to semantic confusion, succeed in these elements and refused to use real numbers and career construction theory limits till they had finally understood them, calculus may have never formed and mathematics as a whole would be obsolete (Apostal 102). The verb refused applies to Greek rigor, not Greeks, which is nonsensical. Be careful to ensure that your verbs match the subject you intend for them. Don't use till when you mean until. That's colloquial at best, and not really a proper use of the word at all at worst. The proper phrase is have never been formed.

To say something never formed begs the question: What didn't it form? Even though there is a citation for this extreme declaration that mathematics as a whole would be obsolete, it's still probably hyperbole. I wonder if the source actually said that, or if the student's paraphrasing has overstated the source's point that mathematics might be different without the advent of calculus. Be careful that you don't paraphrase in such a way as to claim a source said something that they did not. If this source really says mathematics would be obsolete without calculus, it's a bad source. Such a statement would render even basic arithmetic and counting as obsolete, which is ridiculous. Essentially , it is a case of Smith's word against a number of suspicious details pointing against him. He acknowledged possession of a copy of part of one of Jones' manuscripts, on more than one occasion he deliberately altered or added to congress of hamilton's, important documents before publishing them, and a material date I none of his manuscripts had been falsified (1675 had been changed to 1673) (Bogus, 78) Essentially isn't technically incorrect here, but students do have a tendency to use words like essentially and basically too often. It's somewhat conversational, and possibly colloquial. Try to avoid it unless something is truly essential.

A number of suspicious details pointing against him is an awkward way of saying: suspicions of his guilt. But what the construction, student means is not suspicions, but points of evidence. When you list several examples of congress which economic programs? something you've indicated, the way to career construction theory, punctuate it is as follows (note the placement of the rich picture, colon and theory subsequent semicolons): [Point being made]:[proof 1];[proof 2];[proof 3]; and[proof 4]. This way each proof can have punctuation such as commas without being confused with other points, and each proof still points to the main part of the sentence. This entire thing should be rewritten to say: It is a case of rich picture Smith's word against the evidence of his guilt: he acknowledged possession of a copy of career Jones' manuscripts; on more than one occasion he deliberately altered or added to important documents before publishing them; and his manuscripts had been falsified by mother, changing 1675 to 1673 (Bogus, 78).

After quoting a dictionary definition: The editors of the famous dictionary are probably unaware of the fact that they have just committed a cardinal sin in career theory, the mathematical world , in that they only described fingleish widgetry, and failed to include an explanation of fnordleish widgetry. It's okay to question a source, and at higher levels of education it might even be required. But if you're going to do it, be careful to do it well and with evidence. This just sounds presumptuous. Congress. The student has not shown whether or not the theory, dictionary has separate definitions for mother widgetry or otherwise accounts for its apparent lack of career construction theory sufficient definition. Saying the dictionary is dissertation, famous is probably unnecessary, and possibly hyperbole.

A cardinal sin is a sin of fundamental importance. In the Judeo-Christian context, this would mean something very bad, like murder. Thus, calling a disagreement in theory, definition in a dictionary a cardinal sin is definitely hyperbole. Even if it was a cardinal sin, the sin was committed in the dictionary, not in the mathematical world. The student meant against the mathematical world.

It is surprising how people could be satisfied such a vague definition, as was the case in Webster's Dictionary, on a subject that has tested such great minds for centuries upon centuries . It is surprising how students could be satisfied with such drivel in their essays. That sounds nasty, doesn't it? That's because it is. Sentences like this are insulting and off-putting, and alice nelson don't belong in a formal essay. Career Theory. Such great minds requires an example. Essay Action Plans. The word such should be omitted. Centuries upon theory centuries is redundant. Just say centuries and of hamlet leave it at that.

Jones' first object in Paris was to make contact with the French government but, while waiting for such an opportunity, he made contact with mathematicians and philosophers there, in particular Davis and Myers, discussing with Davis a variety of topics but particularly church reunification (Bugle 57). An object is a thing. The student means Jones' first objective. Construction Theory. This is a bad run-on. Action And Climate Change. It should be broken up like this: Jones' first objective in Paris was to make contact with the French government, but while waiting for an opportunity to do so, he made contact with mathematicians and philosophers such as Davis and Myers. Career Theory. He discussed a variety of topics with Davis, particularly church reunification (Bugle 57). Smith's contribution to math has helped our society become more technological in building things . In this particular case, Smith made many contributions, not just one. Math is the rich picture, colloquial version of mathematics. Did Smith's contributions only help our society?

What about other societies? More technological in building things is a really awkward way of construction theory saying improved our technological aptitude. Undoubtedly, Jones was one of the greatest geniuses that ever lived and alice dunbar nelson this paper will demonstrate that, starting from construction, his childhood until his death . Smith may have been a genius, but to mother of hamlet, blow that up to one of the greatest geniuses that ever lived is hyperbole. Even if it is true, the paper didn't demonstrate it because the career construction theory, paper didn't compare Smith to other great geniuses that have lived. The paper showed that Smith was a genius, perhaps, but not his rank amongst all of the geniuses that have ever lived. If you start from something, you go to or follow through to another something. Dunbar. The phrase starting from his childhood until his death actually means you're starting from the section of time inclusively between his childhood and death and not saying where you're going. Furthermore, the paper does not start from Smith's childhood because it was not being written when Smith was a child. Career Theory. The student means, starting with his childhood and following through to his death. Mother Of Hamlet. That is still awkward, and the sentence would be best written:

Undoubtedly, Jones was a genius, and this paper will demonstrate that by examining his entire life. So John lived for seven years with his mother's parents who did not really show him any affection . So in this context is colloquial and should be omitted. This really should be cited. John's address may be a matter of career theory public record and therefore doesn't have to be cited, but comments on the emotional quality of the rich picture, household imply research, and the student should give credit to career, the source. Rich Picture. Really is career, colloquial, and should be omitted. While at Cambridge, Smith's genius was most productive in his dedication to math . Who is Smith's genius?

The student means Smith's intellect, but an intellect cannot be productive. It facilitates productivity, but it is dissertation title, not productive itself. Theory. A better way to write this would be: Smith's intellect was best displayed in his dedication. Math is dissertation title, colloquial. Career Construction. It should be mathematics. This information helps us to of hamilton's economic programs?, understand how we, as humans stay on the ground; we are matter as well and do have an invisible force weighing us down as we push against it and it pushes back against us . This hand full of knowledge has helped our scientist understand our universe of heavenly bodies and their movement. It has also allowed scientist to delve further in exploring our galaxy. Does gravity only affect humans?

Granted, the student is trying to make the career construction, science seem more personal, but this is an awkward way of doing it. It is also something that seems to indicate an essay geared to children. While you should usually write essays so they can be understood by laypersons, you can assume those laypersons are your age and intellectual peers. The description of the invisible force is very awkward. A better wording would be: do have an invisible force that we push against as it pushes back against us. Gravity does not, in fact, weigh people down. The student's own definition of it earlier in the essay mentions this, and here too it is accurately described as a push, not a pull. To add in the bit about Plans Change it weighing us down is contradictory. Career Construction. The student means handful. This is a bad description anyway, since the student is Relocation Plans and Climate, trying to show how this knowledge is monumental to career theory, scientists. Both instances of mother scientist should be pluralized.

One delves further into something, not in it. The Royal Society always had someone coming in career construction theory, each week they met to show off their invention . Always had someone coming in is colloquial and awkward. It should say: The Royal Society hosted a guest each week. Dunbar Nelson. The second part of this is a separate sentence and should be capitalized and punctuated accordingly, or else brought into the first sentence with appropriate conjunctions. Show off is career construction theory, colloquial. Demonstrate would be better. Since more than one invention was demonstrated, invention should be plural. A concluding paragraph:

Jones was a great man who made an impact in all of our lives . He is recognized as one of the centuries brilliant-minded people who helped to further math along. This intellectual man has created something which has and will be used for congress rejected of hamilton's programs? years to come. This is an career theory, important part of mother history which will and career construction should never be forgotten. The essay has shown that Jones was brilliant and invented some useful things. It has not, however, demonstrated that he was a great man. A great man is one that embodies greatness in all things, including attitude, relationships with others, and their contributions to their society. Jones may have been all of this, but the alice dunbar nelson, essay did not reflect it, so it is hyperbole to declare it in the conclusion. It is also a highly subjective comment; what makes someone great to career, one person may not for Action Plans another.

Centuries is the plural of career construction theory century, not the possessive. The student means century's. But Jones was not of our current century, so the student should define which century they mean. Impacts are made on, not in. Dissertation Title Generator. If by all of us the student means everyone on the planet, this is incorrect. Jones' contributions to mathematics hardly impact the life of someone living in a non-literate, non-industrialized society. Career. Even if the student merely means her peers, it is rich picture, still hyperbole to declare that everyone has been impacted. If you're going to mention that the person did something in your conclusion, mention what that something is. While it is unlikely that Jones' history will be forgotten, the construction theory, student cannot effectively predict the future in this way. Some of these comments may seem nitpicky, but the fact of the matter is errors such as these reflect poorly on you and rich picture your essay. No one is perfect, and an essay with one or two awkward phrases won't be marked down just for those instances.

But an essay that is full of the errors listed above prevents the reader from understanding the content. Career. If the instructor doesn't know what you mean, they can't possibly give you a good grade. Last updated in alice dunbar, February 2005. Copyright #169 2000-2005 Kimberly Chapman. All rights reserved. Career Construction Theory (Career Counseling)

resume nmap scan Any security tool is only as useful as the output it generates. Complex tests and algorithms are of little value if they aren't presented in an organized and comprehensible fashion. Given the number of ways Nmap is used by construction theory, people and other software, no single format can please everyone. So Nmap offers several formats, including the interactive mode for humans to read directly and semantic confusion XML for easy parsing by construction, software. In addition to offering different output formats, Nmap provides options for controlling the verbosity of output as well as debugging messages.

Output types may be sent to title, standard output or to named files, which Nmap can append to career construction theory, or clobber. Rich Picture? Output files may also be used to career theory, resume aborted scans. Nmap makes output available in rich picture, five different formats. The default is called interactive output , and it is sent to standard output (stdout). Theory? There is of hamlet, also normal output , which is similar to interactive except that it displays less runtime information and warnings since it is expected to career, be analyzed after the scan completes rather than interactively. XML output is one of the most important output types, as it can be converted to HTML, easily parsed by programs such as Nmap graphical user interfaces, or imported into databases.

The two remaining output types are the simple grepable output which includes most information for a target host on a single line, and nelson sCRiPt KiDDi3 0utPUt for users who consider themselves |-r4d. While interactive output is the default and career theory has no associated command-line options, the dissertation generator, other four format options use the same syntax. They take one argument, which is the filename that results should be stored in. Multiple formats may be specified, but each format may only be specified once. For example, you may wish to save normal output for your own review while saving XML of the same scan for programmatic analysis. You might do this with the options -oX myscan.xml -oN myscan.nmap . While this chapter uses the simple names like myscan.xml for brevity, more descriptive names are generally recommended. The names chosen are a matter of personal preference, though I use long ones that incorporate the scan date and a word or two describing the scan, placed in construction, a directory named after the company I'm scanning. While these options save results to files, Nmap still prints interactive output to stdout as usual. For example, the command nmap -oX myscan.xml target prints XML to myscan.xml and confusion fills standard output with the same interactive results it would have printed if -oX wasn't specified at all. You can change this by career theory, passing a hyphen character as the argument to one of the format types. This causes Nmap to dissertation title, deactivate interactive output, and instead print results in the format you specified to the standard output stream.

So the career construction theory, command nmap -oX - target will send only XML output to stdout. Dunbar? Serious errors may still be printed to career, the normal error stream, stderr. Unlike some Nmap arguments, the rich picture, space between the logfile option flag (such as -oX ) and the filename or hyphen is mandatory. Construction Theory? If you omit the flags and give arguments such as -oG- or -oXscan.xml , a backwards compatibility feature of Nmap will cause the creation of normal format output files named G- and Xscan.xml respectively. All of Essay Change these arguments support strftime -like conversions in the filename. Construction? %H , %M , %S , %m , %d , %y , and %Y are all exactly the same as in strftime . Dunbar? %T is the construction, same as %H%M%S , %R is the same as %H%M , and congress which economic %D is the construction, same as %m%d%y . Dissertation Title? A % followed by any other character just yields that character ( %% gives you a percent symbol). So -oX 'scan-%T-%D.xml' will use an XML file with a name in the form of scan-144840-121307.xml . Nmap also offers options to control scan verbosity and to append to output files rather than clobbering them. All of these options are described below. Nmap Output Formats.

Requests that normal output be directed to the given filename. Construction? As discussed above, this differs slightly from interactive output . Requests that XML output be directed to the given filename. Nmap includes a document type definition (DTD) which allows XML parsers to validate Nmap XML output. While it is primarily intended for programmatic use, it can also help humans interpret Nmap XML output. The DTD defines the legal elements of the format, and often enumerates the attributes and values they can take on.

The latest version is always available from dissertation generator https://svn.nmap.org/nmap/docs/nmap.dtd. XML offers a stable format that is easily parsed by software. Construction Theory? Free XML parsers are available for all major computer languages, including C/C++, Perl, Python, and Java. Dissertation? People have even written bindings for most of these languages to handle Nmap output and execution specifically. Examples are Nmap::Scanner and Nmap::Parser in theory, Perl CPAN. In almost all cases that a non-trivial application interfaces with Nmap, XML is the preferred format.

The XML output references an dissertation, XSL stylesheet which can be used to format the career, results as HTML. Relocation Action And Climate Change? The easiest way to use this is simply to career construction theory, load the congress rejected economic, XML output in a web browser such as Firefox or IE. By default, this will only work on the machine you ran Nmap on (or a similarly configured one) due to the hard-coded nmap.xsl filesystem path. Use the --webxml or --stylesheet options to create portable XML files that render as HTML on any web-connected machine. -oS filespec (ScRipT KIdd|3 oUTpuT) Script kiddie output is like interactive output, except that it is construction, post-processed to better suit the l33t HaXXorZ who previously looked down on Nmap due to its consistent capitalization and spelling. Humor impaired people should note that this option is making fun of the script kiddies before flaming me for supposedly helping them . This output format is covered last because it is deprecated. The XML output format is far more powerful, and Essay Relocation Action Plans and Climate Change is nearly as convenient for experienced users. XML is a standard for which dozens of excellent parsers are available, while grepable output is my own simple hack. XML is extensible to support new Nmap features as they are released, while I often must omit those features from construction grepable output for lack of a place to put them.

Nevertheless, grepable output is still quite popular. It is a simple format that lists each host on semantic confusion, one line and can be trivially searched and parsed with standard Unix tools such as grep, awk, cut, sed, diff, and Perl. Construction? Even I usually use it for one-off tests done at alice, the command line. Construction? Finding all the hosts with the SSH port open or that are running Solaris takes only a simple grep to identify the hosts, piped to an awk or cut command to print the desired fields. Grepable output consists of comments (lines starting with a pound (#)) and target lines. A target line includes a combination of six labeled fields, separated by tabs and followed with a colon. The fields are Host , Ports , Protocols , Ignored State , OS , Seq Index , IP ID , and Status . The most important of these fields is generally Ports , which gives details on each interesting port.

It is a comma separated list of port entries. Each port entry represents one interesting port, and takes the form of rich picture seven slash (/) separated subfields. Theory? Those subfields are: Port number , State , Protocol , Owner , Service , SunRPC info , and Version info . As with XML output, this man page does not allow for documenting the entire format. A more detailed look at the Nmap grepable output format is available in which economic programs?, the section called Grepable Output ( -oG ). -oA basename (Output to all formats)

As a convenience, you may specify -oA basename to store scan results in normal, XML, and grepable formats at once. They are stored in basename .nmap , basename .xml , and basename .gnmap , respectively. As with most programs, you can prefix the theory, filenames with a directory path, such as. /nmaplogs/foocorp/ on Unix or c:hackingsco on dissertation generator, Windows. Verbosity and debugging options. -v (Increase verbosity level) , -v level (Set verbosity level)

Increases the verbosity level, causing Nmap to print more information about the scan in progress. Open ports are shown as they are found and completion time estimates are provided when Nmap thinks a scan will take more than a few minutes. Use it twice or more for even greater verbosity: -vv , or give a verbosity level directly, for example -v3 . Most changes only affect interactive output, and some also affect normal and construction script kiddie output. The other output types are meant to be processed by semantic, machines, so Nmap can give substantial detail by default in those formats without fatiguing a human user. Career Construction Theory? However, there are a few changes in other modes where output size can be reduced substantially by omitting some detail. For example, a comment line in the grepable output that provides a list of all ports scanned is only printed in verbose mode because it can be quite long.

-d (Increase debugging level) , -d level (Set debugging level) When even verbose mode doesn't provide sufficient data for you, debugging is available to flood you with much more! As with the verbosity option ( -v ), debugging is congress rejected of hamilton's, enabled with a command-line flag ( -d ) and the debug level can be increased by specifying it multiple times, as in career construction, -dd , or by setting a level directly. For example, -d9 sets level nine. Congress Rejected Of Hamilton's? That is the highest effective level and will produce thousands of lines unless you run a very simple scan with very few ports and targets. Debugging output is useful when a bug is suspected in Nmap, or if you are simply confused as to what Nmap is doing and why. As this feature is career construction theory, mostly intended for developers, debug lines aren't always self-explanatory. You may get something like: Timeout vals: srtt: -1 rttvar: -1 to: 1000000 delta 14987 == srtt: 14987 rttvar: 14987 to: 100000 . If you don't understand a line, your only recourses are to ignore it, look it up in confusion, the source code, or request help from the development list ( nmap-dev ). Some lines are self explanatory, but the messages become more obscure as the debug level is increased.

--reason (Host and career port state reasons) Shows the dunbar nelson, reason each port is set to a specific state and the reason each host is construction theory, up or down. Essay Action Plans And Climate Change? This option displays the type of the packet that determined a port or hosts state. For example, A RST packet from a closed port or an echo reply from an construction theory, alive host. The information Nmap can provide is determined by the type of scan or ping.

The SYN scan and Essay Relocation and Climate Change SYN ping ( -sS and -PS ) are very detailed, but the TCP connect scan ( -sT ) is limited by the implementation of the connect system call. This feature is automatically enabled by the debug option ( -d ) and the results are stored in XML log files even if this option is not specified. --stats-every time (Print periodic timing stats) Periodically prints a timing status message after each interval of time . The time is construction theory, a specification of the Essay Plans, kind described in the section called Timing and Performance; so for career, example, use --stats-every 10s to get a status update every 10 seconds. Updates are printed to interactive output (the screen) and XML output. --packet-trace (Trace packets and data sent and received) Causes Nmap to congress rejected of hamilton's programs?, print a summary of every packet sent or received.

This is often used for debugging, but is also a valuable way for new users to understand exactly what Nmap is doing under the covers. Career Construction Theory? To avoid printing thousands of lines, you may want to title generator, specify a limited number of ports to scan, such as -p20-30 . If you only care about the goings on of the career construction, version detection subsystem, use --version-trace instead. If you only care about rich picture, script tracing, specify --script-trace . With --packet-trace , you get all of the career theory, above. --open (Show only open (or possibly open) ports) Sometimes you only care about ports you can actually connect to ( open ones), and rejected of hamilton's don't want results cluttered with closed , filtered , and career theory closed|filtered ports.

Output customization is Plans Change, normally done after the scan using tools such as grep , awk , and Perl , but this feature was added due to overwhelming requests. Specify --open to only see hosts with at career theory, least one open , open|filtered , or unfiltered port, and dissertation title generator only see ports in those states. These three states are treated just as they normally are, which means that open|filtered and unfiltered may be condensed into construction theory, counts if there are an overwhelming number of them. --iflist (List interfaces and routes) Prints the interface list and system routes as detected by Nmap. This is Relocation Plans, useful for debugging routing problems or device mischaracterization (such as Nmap treating a PPP connection as ethernet). Miscellaneous output options. --append-output (Append to rather than clobber output files) When you specify a filename to construction, an output format flag such as -oX or -oN , that file is overwritten by default.

If you prefer to rich picture, keep the existing content of the file and append the new results, specify the --append-output option. All output filenames specified in construction, that Nmap execution will then be appended to rather than clobbered. This doesn't work well for XML ( -oX ) scan data as the resultant file generally won't parse properly until you fix it up by hand. --resume filename (Resume aborted scan) Some extensive Nmap runs take a very long timeon the order of days. Rich Picture? Such scans don't always run to completion. Restrictions may prevent Nmap from career construction theory being run during working hours, the network could go down, the machine Nmap is running on might suffer a planned or unplanned reboot, or Nmap itself could crash. The administrator running Nmap could cancel it for any other reason as well, by alice nelson, pressing ctrl-C . Restarting the whole scan from the beginning may be undesirable. Fortunately, if normal ( -oN ) or grepable ( -oG ) logs were kept, the user can ask Nmap to resume scanning with the target it was working on when execution ceased. Simply specify the --resume option and pass the normal/grepable output file as its argument. Career Construction Theory? No other arguments are permitted, as Nmap parses the output file to use the same ones specified previously.

Simply call Nmap as nmap --resume logfilename . Dissertation Title? Nmap will append new results to the data files specified in the previous execution. Career? Resumption does not support the XML output format because combining the two runs into one valid XML file would be difficult. --stylesheet path or URL (Set XSL stylesheet to transform XML output) Nmap ships with an confusion, XSL stylesheet named nmap.xsl for viewing or translating XML output to HTML. The XML output includes an xml-stylesheet directive which points to nmap.xml where it was initially installed by Nmap. Run the career theory, XML file through an XSLT processor such as xsltproc to confusion, produce an HTML file. Career Construction? Directly opening the XML file in a browser no longer works well because modern browsers limit the locations a stylesheet may be loaded from. If you wish to use a different stylesheet, specify it as the argument to --stylesheet . You must pass the full pathname or URL. Alice? One common invocation is --stylesheet https://nmap.org/svn/docs/nmap.xsl . This tells an construction, XSLT processor to load the rich picture, latest version of the stylesheet from Nmap.Org. The --webxml option does the same thing with less typing and memorization.

Loading the XSL from Nmap.Org makes it easier to view results on a machine that doesn't have Nmap (and thus nmap.xsl ) installed. So the URL is construction, often more useful, but the local filesystem location of nmap.xsl is dissertation title generator, used by construction theory, default for Plans and Climate, privacy reasons. --webxml (Load stylesheet from Nmap.Org) This is a convenience option, nothing more than an alias for construction, --stylesheet https://nmap.org/svn/docs/nmap.xsl . --no-stylesheet (Omit XSL stylesheet declaration from XML) Specify this option to prevent Nmap from associating any XSL stylesheet with its XML output.

The xml-stylesheet directive is omitted.

When Rod finally tastes it, he finds it sweet and slightly spicy, and quite enjoys it. Book 3 reveals that Grakker's people raise worms to rejected of hamilton's economic programs?, eat. Later in the book, Rod is mentioned to career construction theory, have found a couple of alien dishes he likes, including scrambled squibbish, which resembles moldy rat tails sauteed in Essay Relocation Plans and Climate eyeball sauce.

Elspeth, when convinced to theory, try it, says it tastes like chicken. Book 4 includes a vegetable that resembles a purple potato. but it moves on its own and has to be killed before it can be eaten. Essay Change. (Cutting it in half is sufficient, and it doesn't make any noise.) Annoying Younger Sibling: She's actually Rod's maternal cousin , but Elspeth McMasters fills such a role in career books 2 onward. Played straight with Spar Kellis who, when he sees her behavior, mentions he has a sister like that. Bittersweet Ending: BKR is ultimately stopped, the career construction, Allbright family is confusion finally united, and career Rod will even be able to return to space in congress which of hamilton's programs? the future. However, the entire Ferkel crew must stand trial going against the Galactic Patrol's orders, and their ultimate fate is career theory left up in the air, though they state that their finally bringing BKR to justice as a result of disobeying orders will also be taken into consideration.

Bizarre Alien Sexes: Tar Gibbons, as seen below: He did live in a swamp though. Starfish Aliens: The cast includes Tar Gibbons (member of a multi-gendered species), Phil the Essay Relocation and Climate, Plant, and Edgar/Seymour (member of a symbiont species which splits into theory, two bodies as part of its life cycle). On the psychological side, Captain Grakker uses a computerized implant to experience different moods. Known modules include diplomatic, docility, berserk, battle (which Tar Gibbons thinks is poorly programmed), judicial and open mind. Mother Of Hamlet. A patience module is also mentioned, and apparently they had more than one of it on hand - Madame Pong notes early in The Search For Snout that she needs to requisition a new one, because Grakker's short-circuited his way through their entire inventory. Steven Ulysses Perhero: BKR's alias on construction, Earth is Billy Becker. Ah-rit Alber Ite changed his name to dissertation title, Arthur Art Allbright when he settled on Earth. Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Due to career construction theory, the Bizarre Alien Biology of the Starfish Aliens. Of the five alien crew members, two are roughly male, one female, one plant that uses male pronouns, and one with no equivalent in Earth's biology that considers male or female pronouns insulting. When Rod's cousin asks Madame Pong why there is only one female, she explains that the Plans and Climate, sheer diversity of species and genders means they don't even pay attention to that kind of thing anymore.

Tragic Monster: Smorkus Flinders, BKR's friend and construction theory partner, was once a kind and Essay Relocation Action Plans decent person until he was caught in a particularly horrific Reality Quake and turned into the monster he is. Unlike BKR, who simply does what he does For the career construction theory, Evulz, Smorkus Flinders does what he does as a way of lashing out at Plans Change, life and the universe for what they did to him. Theory. Translator Microbes: The language implants used by the crew to speak English (though they don't seem to be perfect). Nelson. Rod, Seymour and Elspeth also get them so they can speak Standard Galactic. Time Stands Still: BKR's ultimate goal . Title Drop: Both Aliens ate my homework and I left my sneakers in Dimension X appear in dialogue or narration of the first two books. Averted with books 3 and 4 though. Construction. Ultraterrestrials: In The Search for Snout , Rod believes his Disappeared Dad was an rich picture alien, but upon meeting him in space, finds out that he's a scientist from Atlantis who traveled into space before it fell, became immortal, and had adventures on alien worlds before returning to live on Earth (and then he disappeared to keep his family safe from theory, BKR). Unskilled, but Strong: As noted in the second book, Smorkus Flinders' fighting skills are mediocre; as the other monsters named him their leader purely because he was the biggest out of them all, he never had to dunbar, fight much.

That being said, he's big enough to literally stuff a human into his ear canal, and construction theory has the Super Strength to match. Generator. Wham Episode: The final chapter of I Left my Sneakers in career construction Dimension X reveals that Rod's absent father is an alien and a member of the Galactic Patrol. When Dimensions Collide: Book 2 reveals that BKR and Smorkus Flinders were working on dissertation generator, this, intending to create a permanent door between Dimension X and Dimension Q that would eventually fuse them into one dimension where reality can shift like sand. However, after Smorkus Flinders is career construction taken into captivity and BKR subsequently escapes from custody, he decides to focus on alice nelson, one of his other, older plans. Who Names Their Kid Dude?: The villain named BKR. Yes.

That's his full name. Worthless Yellow Rocks: It's mentioned in career construction theory the first book that energy credits are galactic society's basic unit of exchange. Semantic. Makes more sense than gold, Grakker comments (rather condescendingly) to Rod. Not much you can do with gold once you've got it. You Are Not Ready: When Rod asks why Earth has not been asked into construction theory, the League of alice dunbar nelson Planets, he's told that humans are considered warlike and career theory borderline insane by the other species of the rejected of hamilton's programs?, cosmos. We learn in The Search for Snout, however that the League of Planets only emerged after 1000 years of war between its future member species, so that might be a bit of hypocrisy.

CAREER CONSTRUCTION THEORY doc

essay women's rights From Past to construction, Present. A World Wide Movement. In spite of this recognition of the alice fundamental importance of women achieving the career theory vote, attention paid to the history of its long struggle has been marginalized. Rejected Which Programs?? And, the reasons for construction theory the depth of its opposition ignored. Why, for example, did it take until May, 2005, for dissertation women in Kuwait to finally achieve their full voting rights in their national elections? It is commonly believed that female suffrage was desired and construction theory, fought for only in England and the United States. Yet dynamic struggles for congress rejected of hamilton's economic programs? women#146;s basic democratic right appeared in many countries in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Though these movements differed in their reasons and tactics, the fight for female suffrage, along with other women#146;s rights concerns, cut across many national boundaries. By exploring the following topics, this essay attempts to help rectify the construction theory narrow and unexamined view of Essay Relocation Plans and Climate Change female suffrage. By the turn of the twentieth century women#146;s reform was truly an international movement, one in which ideas and tactics used in one country served as models for use in another. The strength of the 19th/early 20th century struggle for women#146;s suffrage was its transnational nature. Cooperation between women of various nations gave each the resources they needed to overcome their marginalisation in the politics of their own nations. In the later decades of the 19th century, the expansion of the telegraph and growth of women#146;s press allowed the discussion about women's status and career, roles to be communicated from country to country. Improvements in transportation facilitated like-minded women and men to attend international gathering where they met and organized. The momentum of congress rejected of hamilton's economic programs? women#146;s suffrage was bolstered by such international movements as: The International Woman Suffrage Association: The International Woman Suffrage Association, established between 1899 and 1902, held its first meeting in Berlin in 1904. A series of Congresses followed, each with the aim of improving women#146;s rights, and each providing a stimulus for similar transforming movements throughout the world.

At the Alliances#146; seventh meeting in Budapest in 1913, euphoria about success was in career construction theory the air, causing American Carrie Chapman Catt to claim: #147;Our movement has reached the last stage. Nelson? Parliaments have stopped laughing at woman suffrage, and politicians have begun to dodge!#148; World-Wide Temperance Movement: Perhaps no other cause helped the women suffrage movement as much as temperance. The Women#146;s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was established in the United States in 1874 as a Protestant reform movement. Career Theory? In 1884, its powerful, influential leader, Frances Willard, formed the World#146;s Women#146;s Christian Temperance Union, which was spearheaded mostly by missionaries working in non-western and dissertation title generator, southern countries.

When Willard saw the link between women voting and temperance, and theory, encouraged her membership to work for the vote, the WCTU leadership skills and organizational resources everywhere provided an enormous boast to sometimes flagging suffrage causes. International Socialism: In 1907 international socialism decided to support women#146;s suffrage. Socialists were bent on organizing working class women. Since bans against female party membership existed within most traditional political parties, Socialists, having to organize women separately from men, managed to create successful female oriented movements in some countries. Most Socialists went beyond civic issues to link suffrage to a fundamental challenge to gender relations.

German Socialists, for example, demanded sexual emancipation and more control for women within their families as well as the dissertation title vote. Socialist tactics also influenced militant suffragism after the 1890s. Most effective was a section within the British movement, the Women#146;s Social and Political Union (WSPU), which used aggressive tactics of construction political confrontation to Action, bring attention to the suffrage cause. Groups in other nations imitated the British, such as the suffragettes in theory Argentina and the United States. And, in 1912 in which programs? Nanking, the Chinese Woman Suffrage Alliance broke windows and stormed the parliament building demanding equality of the sexes and women#146;s right to vote. The League of Nations and United Nations: The establishment of these international bodies significantly forwarded the goal of universal female suffrage. In 1946 a Commission on Women was established, and the Convention of the Political Rights for career theory Women was adopted in 1952.

Inter-regional and Pan-national Organizations: Region specific coalitions also strengthened individual movements. Rich Picture? Although Latin American women participated in several inter-American and European conferences, they had more success when they formed supportive alliances within the South American continent. The first South American International Feminine Congress took place in Buenos Aires in 1910. Construction? And, although the 1928 founded Inter-American Commission of Essay Relocation Action and Climate Women at career first was driven by North American issues, it increasingly geared itself to the needs of Latin American women. By the 1940s, the Commission had become an almost exclusively Latin American organization.

Pan-Pacific women#146;s networks also became effective advocates of women#146;s political equality, as did those within countries with great regional diversity. As an example, women in India by the end of the nineteenth century were forming their own organizations. The first all-India organization, the Women#146;s Indian Association was established in 1917, and by 1918 was holding gatherings all over India in support of women#146;s franchise. International Council of Women, Berlin, 1904. Women#146;s struggle for suffrage was long and sometimes bitter. Congress Rejected Of Hamilton's? In most cases women won the career theory right to vote in confusion uneven stages. Full suffrage occurs when all groups of women are included in national voting and career construction, can run for dissertation title generator any political office. Theory? In most cases women won the right to vote in uneven stages. New Zealand in 1893 was first. Liberalism was a strong force in this pioneering land which increasingly rejected what it viewed as archaic attitudes from the #147;Old World.#148; The support of social reform issues, including temperance, gave New Zealand suffragists the edge they needed.

The now famous #147;Women#146;s Suffrage Petition#148; is credited with being a major force for this success. Rich Picture? Signed by close to one quarter of the female adult population, the petition was the largest of its kind in New Zealand and other western countries. It is comprised of 546 sheets of paper, all glued together to form one continuous roll 274 metres long, with the career construction theory signatures of over 10,000 adult women. A few Maori women signed, but at rich picture this time they mainly were concerned with achieving political participation rights for the whole tribe. The New Zealand breakthrough sent ripples throughout the career construction theory world. New Zealand women suffrage supporters were invited to many countries to visit, lecture, and even join in demonstrations. Contingent of New Zealanders. Supporting British Suffragists in a Parade. In Europe, Finland, Norway and Iceland were among the first to grant female suffrage. Most other western governments only extended suffrage to women during or just after WWI, even though women#146;s rights had been widely debated in their societies for many decades.

Even though suffrage movements in the United States were large and vigorous in the early twentieth century, it took women there seventy-two years from first claiming the franchise in 1848 to generator, achieving it in 1920. It was an equally long process in Britain where women#146;s important work in WWI provided an opportunity for construction the government to rich picture, act on suffrage without seeming to capitulate to the tactics of the more militant arm of career construction England's #147;suffragette#148; movement. France was one of the semantic confusion last in Europe to enfranchise women, even though the demand for women#146;s rights was first voiced by Olympe de Gouge during the French Revolution, and career, it was in semantic France that the most radical critique of women#146;s subordination was developed. French suffragists, however, throughout the early part of the construction 20th century faced opposition from politicians, many of whom were Socialists who feared women would support Catholicism and right-wing political conservatism. French women won the vote as late as 1944. French women, nonetheless, fared better than the Swiss.

It took efforts of the Swiss Federation for rich picture Women#146;s Suffrage from 1909 to 1971 before women in Switzerland were allowed to career, vote in national elections, and not until 1989 could women in the Appenzell Interiour Rhodes canton vote in of hamlet their local elections. In colonized countries, women demanded the right to vote not just from stable republics, but from colonial powers. Anti-colonial nationalist movements in some cases encompassed women#146;s suffrage. For example, in India in 1919, poet and political activist Sarojini Naidu headed a small deputation of women to career theory, England to present the case for female suffrage before a select committee set up to create a proposal for constitution reforms aimed at the inclusion of some Indians in government. Although the British committee found the proposition preposterous, they allowed future Indian provincial legislatures to grant or refuse the franchise to title generator, women. To the British surprise, many did, making it possible within a short span of time for women to be represented, however limited, on a par with men.

Universal suffrage for career theory all adults over 21 was not achieved, however, until it became part of India#146;s 1950 Constitution. Women in newly independent states in rejected which economic Africa typically won the vote around the year 1960. On winning national independence, most of the ex-colonized countries created constitutions which guaranteed the franchise to both men and women. Construction Theory? In other countries, like South Africa where only whites were allowed to vote for members of the central government, white women gained the right to vote for which of hamilton's economic central government in 1930, while black and colored women voted for the first time in 1994. Today only construction, a few countries do not extend suffrage to women, or extend only limited suffrage. In Bhutan there is only one vote per family in semantic village-level elections. Construction? In Lebanon women have to have proof of education before they vote. In Oman, only 175 people chosen by the government, mostly male, vote, and Kuwait only in 2005 granted women the right to vote in the 2007 elections.

Some countries, like Saudi Arabia, which have denied the vote to rich picture, men as well as women, recently opened the vote in provisional elections to men. Women in construction Bahrain Voting for the First Time. Reasons for granting female suffrage have varied. Sometimes responses to political change, or to societal anxieties, forwarded the cause. In Sweden, for rejected of hamilton's example, women#146;s suffrage seems to have been an attempt to ward off more radical changes. Construction Theory? In Germany, the ending of imperial rule in 1918 opened the door for women to push for the vote. In Canada, the federal government used female suffrage as a political tool, enfranchising army nurses and female relatives of soldiers serving overseas in order to secure an election victory.

A #147;nativist#148; argument also influenced the opinion of some in Canada, and in other parts of the world with large non-Northern European immigrant ethnic and racial minorities. Mother Of Hamlet? One pro-suffrage argument in career theory Canada was that white British Canadian women deserved the vote because the franchise had already been entrusted to naturalized male immigrants from Central Europe. In the United States the same argument was used, as was the fact that African American males had already won the vote before white women. The same reasoning was used by some white settlers in New Zealand, anxious about indigenous peoples#146; access to political rights when it was denied to white women. More common was the incorporation of female suffrage into alice dunbar nelson general reform movements. The push for female political power sometimes occurred when it was clear that without political power little would change for women, even with the passage of substantive reforms.

Concepts of the inherent equality between men and women, however, were not the dominate reasons given for suffrage. Most believed that women, as women, had different and special contributions to make. Construction? Being most concerned with the welfare of their families, women would best bring this special knowledge into the political arena. A principle temperance argument was that women were more likely to vote for prohibition as a way to safeguard the family. Economic reasons for semantic female suffrage were utilized as well. One stressed that once women were full citizens they would be in a position to press for equal salaries. Also, women#146;s economic independence depended on their ability to have a say in laws regarding their right to work and improvement in their working conditions. In the construction colonized states, the colonizers used the #147;woman question#148; to justify their dominance, claiming that women in their subject nations were #147;backward#148; and in dissertation generator need of career #147;uplifting.#148; Ignoring the demands of women in their own countries, they were sometimes more willing to push for women#146;s reforms abroad. On the other hand, nationalistic movements in colonized and other non-western nations began to link attempts at modernization with an improvement in the status of women. In many instances, liberal nationalists, many of them male, needed the active support of women to help fulfill their dream of an confusion, independent, modern state.

Kimura Komako in New York City studying. methods of theory American women suffragists. The question of nelson why female suffrage was so difficult to achieve has been answered in different ways. #149; Suffrage Challenged the Existing Order: Custom and laws in many countries had placed men as supreme in public sphere and within the family. Deep cultural beliefs in male/female differences in altitudes and abilities supported this situation, and giving the women the vote posed a direct threat to male powers and privileges. Career Construction? Changes in women#146;s reforms, such as access to education or property rights, were justified because they were viewed as an improvement in women#146;s social position. Suffrage, on the other hand, challenged the congress rejected of hamilton's economic programs? existing order by threatening the basis of women#146;s subordination in society. Granting suffrage was a revolutionary act.

Conservative Kuwait lawmakers recently blocked women#146;s vote by arguing that giving women would essentially double women#146;s power. Theory? Citing claims that Islam and Kuwaiti custom bar women from confusion holding office, the head of the Parliament#146;s human rights committee in career May, 2005, said that men #147;are technically the mother of hamlet head of the nation here.#148; #149; Many Women didn#146;t Want it. This rationale swayed many a male legislator. It is theory, true that at times even well educated women in countries with high percentages of alice dunbar female illiteracy joined men who claimed that as long as the majority of construction theory women were still illiterate and ignorant, it would be dangerous to confusion, extend them the vote. The anti-suffrage groups in the U.S., for example, were mainly led by women. New York City, 1920. #149; Fear of a Lose of Female rights. Some women and men worried that if the concept of male #147;protection#148; of women were broken, women would be forced to compete with men in areas which they were not prepared to. Giving women political independence would even change male/female roles in the family structure, severely damaging it. #149; Women#146;s Essential Femininity would be Sacrificed.

Most women did not want to construction theory, give up what they saw as essential characteristics of their female nature if voting meant that they would have to enter the rough and disorderly realm of politics. There were fears that when women entered the alice dunbar nelson public arena their #147;natural#148; roles of wife and mother would be undermined. In South America, feminists were most successful when they developed ideas for improving women#146;s condition that did not challenge some basic social values. Suffrage became only one part of the career construction process of social change which recognized the need first to address women#146;s problems associated with their health and work. Feminist and suffrage supporters in non-western regions tended to be accused of blindly imitating Western women, who were perceived as aggressive and shameless. Alice Nelson? Japanese women#146;s internationalism was attacked using this very argument. In the years leading up to World War II, members of the Japanese Diet increasingly portrayed women#146;s suffrage as immoral and as running counter to Japanese customs. #149; National Needs Come First: In countries fighting for their independence from colonial rule there was pressure on women to career construction, wait their turn.

Even Gandhi, who had brought women into the public struggle for self sufficiency from Great Britain, stated that although he wanted women to take their proper place by the side of alice nelson men, the career construction timing was wrong for rejected which of hamilton's programs? a #147;votes for women#148; campaign; women instead should use their energies #147;helping their men against the common foe.#148; Women suffrage supporters, too, tended to be more nationalistic than feminist, arguing that votes for women were necessary so that they could imbue their children with ideas of nationalism. #149; Resistance of Liberal/Left Politicians: Some supporters of progressive legislation worried that acts by women#146;s militant suffrage would harm the #147;larger#148; cause of career theory progressive politics. There further was concern that once given the Essay and Climate vote, women might all vote for conservative parties. Women in Mexico sadly missed the chance to gain suffrage in 1930s because of these fears. In 1934, General Lázaro Cárdenas drafted a bill to implement female suffrage, which was passed by both the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, was ratified by the states, and only needed formal declaration to be made into law.

That declaration never came. The presence of a number of street demonstrations, a threatened hunger strikes by feminists, and fears that women would be unduly influenced by the clerical vote, unnerved Cárdenas at construction the last moment. Since the rich picture suffrage campaign was not a mass movement, it was easy to career construction, let the needed declaration slip away. Mexican women did not receive federal vote until 1958. #149; Suffrage Granted and congress rejected which economic, the Denied: Suffrage, or its promise, has been granted and then retracted at construction theory various times. Semantic Confusion? During the career liberalization phase of Essay Plans Japan#146;s Meiji government in the 1880s, it seemed that Japan#146;s #147;first feminists#148; were going to achieve their goal of political participation. But all was ended in 1889 with the passing of laws which not only denied women voting rights, but even the career construction theory right to join political parties. In the 1920s, Japanese feminists campaigned again, but the growing imperialism of the Meiji state and rich picture, rising tide of Japanese militarism in the early 1930s turned Japanese suffragists back. When the career construction theory Japanese military took control of the country in the 1930s, all democratizing movements were suppressed. It took people like Ichikawa Fusae decades of arguing that women#146;s suffrage was a fundamental human right before it was enshrined in the new Japanese constitution of 1945. In 1956 in alice nelson Egypt, thirty-three years after feminists had first demanded suffrage, the revolutionary government granted women the right to vote.

But from the start, the state and official Islam obstructed women#146;s political rights by career construction, banning feminist organizations and suppressing the public expression of their views. Thus the same year that the Essay Relocation Change state granted women the right to career construction theory, vote, women were suppressed as independent political actors. Similarly Iran, which had granted women suffrage in confusion 1963 and passed numerous women#146;s equal rights legislation in the 70s, repealed all these gains when the revolutionary government of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini came to power in 1979. Women were eliminated from all decision-making positions within the career construction theory government, dress requirements were enforced, and women#146;s organizations were declared corrupt and disbanded. The future looks brighter today. A growing urban, middle class is making some progress by situating women#146;s rights within the cultural framework of Iran, and noting that in order to modernize, Iran must improve the status of women.

Irish Cartoon, 1913. Suffrage has not been an automatic stepping stone to full equality for women. One problem was that once suffrage was achieved, the common ground among women fighting for it was lost. Fears that participation in politics was #147;unladylike#148; remained, as did the old resistance and hostile attitudes against it. This means that major changes in women#146;s political activities, other than exercising their right to vote, have been long in coming. Today, women are struggling to gain equal participation in political office alongside men. Rich Picture? Of interest is the use in over 41 countries of parity quotas and quota laws to achieve political gender balance. Responding to strong pressure by women#146;s organizations, gender quotas have appeared in many new constitutions, like the one of Rwanda, and career theory, recently in the constitution of Iraq.
